Gameboy studio and hugetracker both use .uge

GB studio is a game engine designed for making gameboy games. Therefore, .uge runs on the system. I rest my case.

Will I be submitting .uge? No, but I think it's a good option to have

I never used the tool but according to their website
, hUGETracker can export .gb ROMs. So I guess the only advantage of submitting .uge is the fact you can open the song in the tracker, which is always good when you want so see how it's made!

On the other hand, the GameBoy format already has a lot of admitted file types... Having .uge would mean everyone would need to install hUGETracker on their system for playback during XHBs (and for majors if you prefer to listen to the original submission instead of the .mp3 render).

I guess the best choice is not to allow .uge, unless a lot of people actually use hUGETracker for their entries.

also hugetracker is… rather unstable? i keep getting arbitrary crashes with it when i’ve tried using it in the past, and have lost several hours worth of work due to it corrupting files or not playing things back properly (which is why i just use a furnace to uge converter).

but like opillion said, it can export the proper file types anyway, so there’s no need for it and could save people the hassle of installing a program that honestly isn’t super useful outside of playback anyway

I didn't know about the crashes. That's interesting. My reasoning is because it is the definitive format TM of GB studio, the most popular engine in the gameboy homebrew scene, than it should be added seeing as most modern gameboy games use it.

Most formats support the most common song format for games (with a few *cough cough* exceptions *cough cough*), so seeing as if we continue at this rate, .uge will be the most common song format in Gameboy Games within a couple years, we should go ahead and support it

By that logic, we should also add .mod tracker support to the Game Boy format because GB Studio also supports converting those .mod files into Game Boy music via its GBT Player routine (the predecessor to the UGE format currently in use, still supported AFAIK)... which is obviously not something that should happen!

I'm even more confused by this suggestion given the fact that hUGETracker can already export to both .gbs and a .gb rom, both already being accepted formats for the Game Boy format. Just... export to one of those, then submit your entry. You can always provide a source with a link in a comment or the description or something if you wanted to!
