Hello there, fellow chiptuners. Today I hath submitted my first game to a game jam (https://itch.io/jam/go-go-godot-jam/rate/3181278)

It's a dungeon crawler speedrunning game with refreshingly advanced movement tech and a weapon combining gimmick. The OST features tracks that adhere to SNES and Genesis limitations. Check it out if you feel so inclined.

Anyway, that's enough self advertising. The reason I made this thread is so that us BOTBs can share the OSTs we've composed for REAL games, whether or not it adheres to console limitations. Have any other BOTBs taken upon themselves the noble task of game composing?

Made in 2012. I adhered to the limitations of the QSound (CPS2) soundchip.

I've always wanted to learn how to make authentic CPS-2.

I'll check out the OST

Most of what I've done for games is in dev hell or canceled, but you can in fact play Slayers X: Terminal Aftermath: Vengance of the Slayer
on all sorts of platforms. I only did like 9 of the songs and then stuff for the DLC that's not out.

Then also an iOS game that's long gone but I still have the soundtrack posted

That's it for now, maybe something else will finally come out next year.

I only really have this game jam entry
I was part of, and nothing else really (Making at least one Game OST, no matter the size was on my bucket list)
Maybe if I weren't so shy I'd have done more, but I guess I'm just not made for that stuff

@Arda, it's a pretty nice OST. Very chill. I'm never able to make relaxing music. You should get back into game composing.

It may seem super daunting, but if you lock in you can get it done. Heck, I didn't think I'd be able to program my game in a week, not even considering the soundtrack. One week later, and I added a saxophone solo.

It's all about mindset. If I ever do a game jam, I'd be more than willing to collab with you for the OST

@BubblegumOctopus, THE S-BLADE HAS A HACKBLOOD CHARGE that's awesome! Slayers X is amazing; totally nails that "absurd game a 12 year old would scribble in their school notebook" vibe (source: I was one of those kids :P ), and the soundtrack sounds the part (delicious nu-metal cheese). Thrilled to see other folks in the boomer shooter space 'round these parts. :D

Over in my neck of the woods, I did the music for the new classic Doom expansion, Legacy of Rust -- all MSGS MIDI, as decreed by Lord Bobby Prince. :P

Here's a YT playlist link
with the full OST (courtesy of a fellow Doom communityperson), or skip ahead to this track
since it seems to be the running favorite.

Looky here! I actually did a video game OST release through Battle of the Bits before! That being Super Dangerous Dungeons. It doesn't include the Sand Dungeon and Ice Dungeon themes, though: that was in 2016 and 2019, respectively.

I've done a few! I've teamed up on several game jams but have had the privelege lately to make some commissioned Game Boy OST work.
My big project this year was the soundtrack to Super Dassalo Land
: a Game Boy Color game by Gumpy Function (the "Grimace's Birthday" game programmer).
I also did the soundtrack for Cat Graffam's Game Boy Camera Gallery: Mystery Show
.
I'm currently working on another GBC soundtrack too. Sort of high-profile as far as these things go. I don't know if I can really talk about it yet though!

.rsn files are renamed .rar files, actually. The same method is also used by SNESMusic.org. Given that the YouTube video is broken, though, I updated the topic and redirected it to a different one.

Have done a bunch, though most of the currently released ones are game jams

Some related to chiptune:
Starboy Adventures
made in Famitracker 2a03+MMC5, and N163 in some tracks
Xermatt Redux
made in Furnace, YM2151+2608

games huh

been working in the gamedev mines since i went inactive here a couple years ago (wow time is too fast)

ball to the wall
made with my friend chaoclypse (we "won" gmtk jam 2021 with this game)

aztec
my first pico 8 project made with a delightful spaniard

ascent
another pico 8 jam game that kicked off my johan peitz era

SKULL CHAINZ
my first commercial game ost + sfx, kinda like hammerfight except in hell, made with chaoclypse again

hellgineers
another pico 8 game with johan, in this one you build bridges for demons on bicycles (again in hell)

cosmic collapse
third pico 8 peitz game, a suika clone that i actually hosted a ridealong battle for, which you can see here

golf monday
pico 8 peitz chaos golf joint

outbreak
johan decided to make a vampire survivors clone for lowrezjam and then developed it into a commercial version afterward

orb of aeternum
pico 8 with johan, its like dungeon keeper but with the crazy limitations of pico 8

driftmania
yet another pico 8 game, this time made by max bize, only did the menu music for this one

sunset solitaire
this is a very very difficult solitaire game, again made in pico 8 working with johan peitz. it's the most recent pico 8 game i've done so far, but will probably not be the last, we'll see

bread and fred
i came into contact with a guy at apogee entertainment (the duke nukem people) in 2022 and they hired me to do contractor work for this co-op penguin rage game. i did all of the sfx for this game, but i also made an alternate chiptune ost for it. bread and fred is released and is planned to have content patches in the future but i'm no longer working on it because atari acquired the publishing rights from apogee. i voice act penguin gibberish in this game (poorly)

quest master
another apogee game, i did all the sfx and the snes-ish gameplay tracks for the ost. pretty cool zelda-maker which has a release date slated for early next year

there are a lot more but like others have mentioned, development hell is real. nda stuff too, but i am trustworthy despite what incorrect opinions you may have about my history

most of this stuff is small potatoes. but they're my potatoes!

it's a lot of games, but notice that its only 4 different devs

starting out networking for me was just going to the places that the devs were (itch.io and gamedev/jam discords) and throwing my hat in the ring (pestering people). i only met johan peitz because i saw he was progress posting on twitter for the same jam i was working on for someone else and he mentioned he didnt have any music. so i cold dm'ed him and he agreed to let me help. this was pretty much just a lot of coincidence and luck, but it couldnt happen unless i was already jamming with someone else.

i think jams are the best way to get in and get dirty if you are just starting out. helps you to meet a variety of devs, polish your people skills, and polish your game audio chops. making friends and establish working relationships are the 2 most important things you can do in a jam. pay attention to who is actually finishing/releasing their games, that's who you want to focus on establishing/developing a relationship with
