I must be crazy to be requesting that a site sends me *more* email rather than *less* but -

is there any interest in adding an email notification feature? I check my email far more often than I check this site, and if someone's kicking off a new battle, it'd be nice to get a notification to check back later when the entry period is about to start.

Maybe even the ability to whitelist / blacklist specific formats and/or types

e.g. "send me an email ✅ WHEN type OHB AND format Wild Chip"

If you haven’t already seen it, there is a role (XHBr) in the Discord server at least that gets you partway there — if you join it like:

!rank XHBr

It will give you a Discord notification when a battle is set up, and will also give a notice 15 minutes prior to a battle starting. It’s not capable of distinguishing between format types like you’re mentioning but sharing in case useful.

oh that's something at least. I find discord a little t-e-d-i-o-u-s but that's my own hangup (like I need *yet another* avenue of communication) but I bet I can pare down notification settings to get over it in this case.

the reason why there are no email or push notifs is because checking the site regularly and hanging out in chats to spot new battles and see alerts is part of the charme of this place. i wldnt want it any other way

After giving it a shot - I really can’t rely on discord for notifications, there isn’t enough fine tuning for which notifications are delivered and when. Way way too much noise to signal. Guess I’ll just keep rolling the dice and checking the site itself occasionally… maybe what I need is a bot / scraper 🤔

BotB has an API, so it's not inconceivable for someone to build a bot or an RSS-style feed (that you could even customise to notifiy you of specific formats!).

There's a cap on daily emails with the hosting plan we have. I can't remember if its 100 or 250. I like the idea of sending a lot of emails all day long. I haven't looked into what additional emails cost in a long time.
