I'm not sure if this has been requested, but I didn't see it. Sorry if it's already been addressed elsewhere.

One my favorite parts of the site is logging in and seeing the friendly little alerts link at the top. It's fun to see your entries favorited along with botbr comments and tag updates. I think it would be really cool to receive these for entries you're marked as a collabist for as well! (Since the botbr who submits is the one who receives alerts).

I'm not sure how complex logic for this would be to set up, but I would think one complicated part of it would be the fact that collabists can be added/removed at will. Maybe the logic could do a check at time of the post/favorite/tag action to know where the alert should be sent?

I think the only potential issue here is that collaborators are not locked-in until the entry periods are over. But having some vestigial alert from being a removed collaborator is probably not of much consequence. :thonk:

if u do this, it wld also be cool to have a little "you have been added as a collab to this entry:" , that way its also easier for botbrs to check if they hav been wrongly added or not

I dug into this a bit. The "single event to many alerts" is going to take some more mental effort than I have right now. I really like this idea and am going to try and think about it more.
I don't know if the added/parted alerts for a collab should overwrite themselves like entry comments/favs/tags do either.

it's not the frequency of alerts that sours people on tag updates. people love getting alerts when someone interacts meaningfully with their work. tag updates are just very rarely that.

i mean, while tagging is valuable work, people mostly do it to grind levels. it doesn't really say anything about your entry that someone tagged it. basically every entry gets tagged and most of them are stuff like "upbeat, square wave, short".

so you see you have alerts and think "oh boy, someone liked my entry or wanted to talk about it???" - and then you see it's just a tag update and the excitement is gone.

none of this applies to getting alerts on collab entries. likes and comments are the kind of alerts everyone wants to see!

i still think getting alerts for tag updates is pointless- and there shld be a filter option somewhere in setting for what kind of activities u want to receive alerts.
this is offtopic to the original req but here i am dropping it anyway

yeah if i could turn off tag updates i probably would

i guess that might make mean tags more likely to slip under the radar but that happens pretty seldomly anyway

if a mean tag is left on my entry but i never see it, have i been harmed? philosophers will debate this for centuries.

roz, since you said tagging is valuable work, I'd like you to elaborate on that, since your post only explains why it isn't.

We’re off topic a bit here, but I think tags are valuable in that they can provide for a new way to discover music, for example by searching for tags in the site music browser. I’ve done this a few times. Not as useful for obscure, one-off tags which is I view as more “for fun” anyway. But I also understand the sentiment of tag notifications being not as exciting to see as favorites and especially comment notifications (my personal favorite). And my comment on authorcore tags — I should explain those never made much sense to me from a practical standpoint and often seem a bit more snarky than useful sometimes. Anyway I do like the idea of filtering notifications for those interested, but it is outside the scope of this request and likely would be a sizeable effort in itself.

@Tex -- a recent example comes to mind:
I brought up goattracker in a chiptune facebook group and was asked for some goattracker tunes. I could have pointed them to all the SIDs on the site and said "odds are these are mostly goattracker" but instead I shared the link to the goattracker tag page. It gives a tiny fraction of what it should but it at least there's a higher level of confidence (unless taggist be liars).

One big trouble with the tag alerts is that they don't show _what_ the update was. The message just says "there were updates!" and nothing else, which doesn't do anything but make noise unless the person has a photographic memory or is compulsively screenshotting all their entries' tag clouds to spot the difference. :P

Again, tag specifics are probably a separate discussion.

The idea for this request was mainly based on when I had submitted a collab entry that Cabbage Drop and I worked on a while back and had been thinking it would be cool if he could see when someone favorited our entry. Didn't think about it much further than that.
