just thinking that famitracker and 0cc have their own formats, and it would make sense to make LSDJ (.lsdsng/.lsdprj/.sav) its own format as well... especially if someone wanted to host regular LSDJ battles for people who would be interested in participating to learn LSDJ....

hold on let me ceremoniously burn my gameboys and lsdj cart for which i have no other means to export other than the audio port

puke you can still use an emulator and save the gameboy direct audio out for wildchip or fakebit

i wish the mp3 thing weren't such a can o' worms but i'm still in favor of including it for both gameboy and a hypothetical LSDJ format. but this is not a thread about the gameboy mp3 worm can (mostly)

i think a point in favor of this format is that LSDJ has a specific, more diverse set of abilities than any other gameboy tool. if you listened to a bunch of gameboy mp3s without knowing in advance, the LSDJ ones would be obvious. the wave channel synths, double drumkit notes, tables, gnarly fast vibratos and retriggers, etc etc, all give LSDJ a unique take on the gameboy chip... and it's very widely used.

that said.. in my opinion nothing is stopping you from making an LSDJ-focused series in the gameboy format, and just strongly encouraging the use of LSDJ (or even requiring it?). this isn't really a point *against* the idea of the new format so much as i think you could do this already, regardless of whether this format happens!

dami thank you for making my case so eloquently! i didn't know if format-specific battles would be frowned upon since its not really common for other formats - it would be nice to have a source-specific format simply for the sake of project file sharing. i get that just rendering it is easier but, project file sharing is part of the fun! the more i think about this it might make sense just to require .lsdprj though, because it's the only format that includes any extraneous samples
