This is a feature that i wanted since like a week ago.

I want BotB to notify BotBr's about new OHB's and majors.
And also I want BotB to notify a BotBr when another BotBr comments on your profile or on one of your entries.

I REALLY wanted this feature for a while so I want this feature to be added on Botb

i don't understand, do you want email or twitter notifications for every comment/favorite that you get? it hardly matters if you're asleep at that time because the comments will still be there

My guess is AArt was talking about browser notifications (which I think is a fairly annoying feature, honestly).

If you use Telegram and really want to be up to date I suggest cheking out TwitterForwardBot

and configuring it for @botb_battles.

good evening. battle notifs make sense, and they work very well via twitter. havin the the ohc spamlist back would be cool as well, i agree.

i personally hate modern notification-systems, because it changes my behaviour from "checking things when i want" to "interrupting my activity and force me to checking things when the service wants it". i just dont see the purpose of them especially not for less important things like favs and comments.. why is it important to know immediately, if someone likes your tune? they will still like it when you visit the page again.

and i dont like the "i will only visit the page when theres a reason to do it"-implication. if you never get a notificiation, will you just forget about botb? i dont think alerts are the most important thing on here, a lot of other stuff is happening all the time- theres a reason why you should visit the page if you're interested in the community.

there is no such implication, if that's the word you wanted to use. just because you receive a notification doesn't mean you're not gonna visit the site when you don't have notifications. i find it safe to assume it can only bring more traffic. it's just one more incentive to visit.

in my experience the botb_battles notifications stopped working for no apparent reason :/ i just set everything up again but i have low hopes. do other botbrs have such problems? (using android)

i agree the twitter solution is not perfect and only announces the creation of XHBs / doesn't alert 10 minutes before they start

while i'm working on the battle engine it probably wouldn't be that hard to create an `announcement period` where if the battle has not been announced yet at 10 minutes before it starts then it would be announced.... but pinging chatters has always been the duty of the botb irc bot and so has been counting down to the entry period both starting and ending

Ok kleeder, so how about this: People could customize which notification they want and which one they don't want.

Maybe you think favs and comments aren't that important, but others might think they are the most important thing

I think the simplest way to do this would be through a specific bot that would bridge events on here directly to Discord, which has a set of simple commands that would allow people to subscribe to general or specific stuff (all off by default), let's say:
- New XHB queued
- XHB starting very soon
- New entry on a major
- New messages on a bulletin
- New songs from a certain artist
- New fav on your track
- New comment on your track
etc.

The bot could also directly DM people to reduce bot spam in chat. DMs because this seems to me like a poweruser tool that doesn't need to be always super visible, but there for people who want it.

Think of it kind of like an RSS feed with discord push notifications (that you can mute because they're DMs)

Puke, if you can come explain to me on Discord the basics of how you made vombot, I could probably get working on that new bot soon.

In terms of the discord bot/bots, one feature I think would be neat (if its possible to implement) is a way to get roles based on certain formats you want to participate in XHB wise, and when one is starting, it can ping that role.

That's really one of my only gripes right now is sometimes I miss XHBs that I'm genuinely interested in because I might be working or doing something and can't be constantly sitting at the botb discord or website to catch battles.

Think that could be solved, after a simple command to the bot, by getting a DM from the bot when a battle of a certain format gets queued, and when it starts?

getting a format-specific ping discourages being adventurous and trying out new weird formats
