I'm aiming at this to be my next major project. Basically, the home page should be much more an activity feed. I can harken back to the day around '08 or '09 when I manage to finagle what BotB has today. I wasn't satisfied then and, with all the social media-ings I've been doing as of late, I sure as hell ain't now.

The idea is to create an alerts system that handle notices for both the system and individual botbrs. I'm going to change the forum to flow like the home page is now, but include more thread groups. Bulletins will still wind up on the homepage.

botbr notices --
favorites and comments on entries
posts on profile wall
haits and lieks on posts
(definitely room for more, but keeping it simple now)

system activity homepage notificationables --
new entry in major
winning entry in any battle
news and bulletins
'bump' an entry for b250
auto-bump an entry when (favs + count(posts)) becomes a multiple of 25

A 'racent activity' playlist would be fun too.

So, I'm just throwing this out there; open to comments and suggestions!

ALL N00BZ!!! \:D/

Looking at the web archive, it's pretty wild to see how far botb's come since its 0|d5kU|3 days.

To think that it's got more coming is super awesome.

To be honest, I rarely ever open the forums/academy. I think this is due to relying on the homepage for most of my BotB whatshappenings and the only other things on there that doesn't appear on the homepage are noob s0z and the old smeesh board. Having the forums be more forumey (kinda like how phpbb is I guess) would introduce a new area for botbrs to assemble and do botbr things!

Notices and notificationables sound ultrohelpful. The bump-cost also is a neat concept... I guess commenting alone won't bump it, but what happens if you bump it without commenting; would there be an indicator of who bumped it?

I'm excited for BotB's future!

items lay forth in teh futurez o= ?

I think being notified of likes and comments on songs is a really nice idea. I'm looking forward to that :D. I would also like the option someday to be able to have a collaboration option to click when posting a song. The current trend seems to be creating a new profile for joint efforts and while there's nothing wrong with that I think it would be really cool if you could add someone to a song you post, and then the points the song gets are split between everyone who worked on the song together. I realize that could be a lot of new programming and take some time to work out, but I hope it's a neat idea worth considering. I'm new here, but I really like this site. The more time I spend here, the more I feel like it was the chip place I was always meant to be :). I will continue to do what I can to be active and invite new talented chip friends to come here :D.

Maybe look at the WebPush API, it's supported in Chrome and FF. Push notifications, for browsers.

Alerts tab has been added to the HomeBunk page. Only 100+ alerts in the system right now. Capturing favorites, entry comments and profile posts. Next step is alerting a BotBr when they have new unseen A-Lerts on page load.

I really like Jredd's idea, to make BotB-recognized collaboration a real thing.

Also, I would heartily recommend putting notifications of different kinds under separate categories — I for sure want to know when someone replies to my comment on a thread, but I might not always care to see if someone liēked it, you know? So if they were kept under separate columns or something, that would be cool. OR! You could make it so that the user could set options for what they want to be notified about! So I could edit my user settings to tell BotB that I only want notifications for people Favoriting my tunes, or maybe only for when someone hæits my comments, or whatever I want.

We now have BotB alerting BotBrs that they have unseen alerts using the top box. I do like the idea of settings for what you want to see on the Alerts page. Should it be everything by default?

Another thing that could Alert BotBrs : tags on entries

Also, I've spent quite a bit of time thinking about the alerts that would be on the main page if I were to replace "Recent Posts" with a "Recent Activity" alert-based feed. The main thing I realized was what I wanted to include in this feed would change even slower than the main page we have now. I've considered going to two columns, one being "Entry Activity" and the other being "BotBr Activity". Still just a concept. I'm really hoping to figure out and implement whatever it is before the kickstarter (in 3 weeks or less). If you've noticed already, the forum's main page has been updated to copy the main page with more thread groups included. Still need to work out pages for both this and the entry browser.

if i may list a bunch of super ambitious suggestions, i would personally like to see

- who's been listening to my stuff
- who's been listening to the stuff I rendered (that wasn't from me)
- what entry of mine has been recently ta--oh wait you already got that noted down

yes i really wanna know the source of my points

There should be no direct built-in way to see who likes your songs, but there should be some super-shady third-party add-on that claims to tell you who's been looking at your profile but really just installs malware on your browser.

Who's with me on this one

Sorry if I'm missing something, but I got a notification about the favorites on my WCXI entry even though it had the same amout as before. Is that a bug? ( http://puu.sh/nlpXm/12153b7e21.png )

Also worth noting: I did get 2 pixelist points and a vote at the same time.

Also also: I'm like 90% sure that it had 11 before but if there's no way this could be a bug then it's possible I'm just remembering incorrectly.

I'm liking the system, though. I always wonder where lone, stray chipist points are coming from.

entry tag update alert implemented

Savestate - I had initially mentioned something about including the most recent names in the alert messages, but I got some flak on one chat or another about it being too much like social media. It would be rather easy to copy the way facebook handles comment and like alerts in this fashion. I'm open to it and it would reduce how much clicking is involved in finding out the finer data. Also, favorites are not exactly orderable by time, so if there are many on an entry it will be hard to deduce which ones are new.

A-zu-ra - there is a problem with the term "listening" as we also have visual works to consider. Irregardlessly [sic], the data I have is called something like fav_much which is a count of all times a botbr listens/views and/or donloads an entry. If they clicked "Add Favorite" on it then 5 is auto added to this fav_much number. So it is pretty easy to list a botbr's total fav_much for all your entries. It's just that simply naming it "listens" is semantically wrong and I've been searching for an answer on that front for some time. Open to suggestions. . .

Ktcmoop - that favorite notification was more or less a bug. Basically, if their fav_much is >= 5 it was being called. There is a check now to make sure the threshold of 5 is attained/passed before creating the alert. The 2 pixelist points would be from views and/or donloads of a pixel work. I don't really have a way to track favorite history, just the current number of favorites.

But back to A-zu-ra's wanton need for who's listening/viewing ::
BotB has botbr daily stats on points by type and boons since back in 2011. I've always meant to put this info on a graph. If I were to copy something like what soundcloud gives you it would probably be on the homebunk only and not the profile page.

How about something silly like consumitions? As in, someone consumed some of your works.

I'm wondering if I can limit what kinds of alerts I can receive. I'm interested in only being notified of the kind of categories I would be interested in.

@puke7 If I may... I think it would be great (& quite important) to have some type of @botbr reply notification set up. Whenever someone comments or replies to botbr1 with "@botbr1", a notification should be shown on botbr1's alert page with a link back to the post. Then delete the alert when botbr1 clicks on it.

btw This site is freaken awesome & I'm lovin it here. Thanks for the great work you put into all this. : )

This doesn't seem to work quite right, though.

Plrusek's song Fourth Apocalypse is at the top of the list at the moment, and it's showing that there is a new comment, but the latest comment on that song is from a few weeks ago.

i discovered just now that (accidentally) autofaving your own entry gives you an alert and puts the entry in the activity feed on the front page. i believe this behavior compounds the hilarity of the notorious autofave system and therefore should not be fixed
