this was her quest for cool
she's gonna make it
possibly.
but sometimes i suspect she will fall
in love with him

old king, cold king candy cane

this was her test for two
she's gonna fake it
probably.
but sometimes i suspect she will fall
in love with him

old king, cold king candy cane

tumble, tremble
follow, falter
fall down under

old king, cold king candy cane

this was her breath for you
she'll sure forsake it
in spite of me.

I can't tell if the guitar is tracked (in which case, the meticulous detail in expression is amazing) or just really damn clean (in which case, the precision involved is equally amazing).

I'm assuming you're talking about the metal track and not this one, lol. I used that electri6ity sample guitar thing for kontakt and played most of the parts by hand, using the pitch wheel to do all the bendy stuff. I fixed the timing glitches where I needed more precision, yet left them where it sounded good. electri6ity is a great sample set, I think it's like 4x round robin, sampled per note, per tone setting, per pickup and per pick position.

And I'm assuming the Steve Vai tag is yours, : )) It took me forever to pinpoint what the guitar tone I had in mind actually was and who or what it belonged to...and even longer to figure out how to create it. My retarded google queries eventually did lead to straight to Steve Vai and it's like, ah yes, that's it! Tho I'm not perfectly satisfied at all with the current mix, mainly cos I didn't nail the guitar tones the way I wanted in time. Tho after speaking with maxvdub about the tone in his track, I realize it's quite simple: just feed a lespaul tone into a screamer pedal and into a tube amp. Between electri6ity and amplitube and using that setup, I'm getting a much better sound. I'm currently trying to mix things the way I originally intended.

Also, I'm glad you guys enjoy this track : )) I hope we get more entries in the next 24 hours.

Oh hahah, I am on the wrong thread aren't I. I was listening to both at once, and I ended up confusing myself. Well, this track is quite good too. ;)

Anyhow, yeah, the tip off that it probably wasn't live guitar was the extreme precision, and complete lack of the little noises caused by moving hands across the strings, the too-smooth curve of the vibrato, etc. but at the same time you covered that with little pitch and timbre expressions everywhere; so much detail there that I had to wonder if it wasn't recorded after all! Ha ha, I guess the round robin did a little of this work for you didn't it? ;) Thanks for naming the instrument though, I may want to check out electri6ity in the future.

I had no doubt in my mind since the first time I heard it that this would win, your wonderful combination of both songs, and the really interesting vocalist melody were great, I loved your choice of rhythm for the vocalist melody, that was so unique! :) this song just flows so perfectly, it catches your interest at the very beginning and holds it completely until the very end. This has to be my favorite track from you, very excellent work my friend, you deserved it!! :)))

Thanks everyone. and Doxic, thank you much for the flattery ;P

Tux, this particular voxsynth technology was in style in the early to mid 90's I think. Places you may have heard it before: older versions of mac os' speech to text, Radiohead's "Fitter Happier" and Tobiah's "I Love Your Music", it was a staple of Nobukazu Takemura's sound for a long time, featured in a few '90s music writing programs like Melody Assistant, used in several novelty speech to text apps on windows and was part of a feature in Hyperstudio called 'blabbermouth'.

Wish I knew what the technology was actually called, it's quite a mystery. Just seemed to pop in random places during the mid '90s. I used to think it was exclusively mac os technology cos I would play with blabbermouth and speech to text on the school computers back in 4th-5th grade and never heard it from pc for the longest time, but it's in a handful of pc apps too. There's definitely some technology company that licenses it out to ppl.

But here, I used a mac program called Vocal Writer. It lets you program notes on a piano roll and type in your lyrics. Melody Assistant on pc uses the same technology, but Vocal Writer's voices have a much more solid tone to them...have no idea why.

fyi, I found it a lot easier to export midi files of my melodies from a program I'm more comfortable composing in than to use Vocal Writer's clunky interface. Would probably be the ideal approach if you ever try to do vocoloid stuff, it has a pretty whack interface too.
