So I was at this Independent Media conference at few weekends past.
I ran into an independent film maker making a documentary on Rappers/MCs in the West Bank/Gaza/Palestine.
Most of their songs are quite political. The problem they run into is that since the conditions there are so appalllingly bad, the rappers/MCs have no access to computers/studios to make beats. So they end up using preexisting and copyrighted instrumental tracks to rap over.
The thought that occurred to me was that we, as members of free musical society at battleofthe bits, could provide tracks/loops that the Palestinain rappers could use without fear of copyright reprisal.
I understand that there are many conflicting views on the whole Palestine/Israel issue.
But I think this might be a really cool concept.
Fellow BotB-ers, please let me know what you think.
