i had this idea last night while i was trying to sleeping and i thought i would see what you thinked!

how about the idea to combine formats when hosting ohc/ohb. someone who wanted to have NINTENDO ohc could start an ohc with SNES and NSF+ formats selected, someone who wanted FM ohc could have Megadrive+Adlib+Deflemask formats selected, someone who wants a "stupidly hard square wave chip" ohc could select VIC+channl F+atari2600, etc? And points could either be split between all formats selected, or awarded to entrants based on the format they entered themself.

good things about it:
- maybe get more ohc entrants since format is less restricted, people have slightly more choice of tools
- maybe assuages people's hunger for the enter-anything ohc (presumably the number of formats that could be combined needs to be restricted (to, say, five??) to stop it just becoming the enter-anything ohc)
- things like sega ohcs and nintendo ohcs are maybe thematic in a fun way while giving a good variety of entries and letting people show off their own strengths

bad things about it:
- maybe it just IS the enter-anything ohc
- can already be done informally with rulepack in wildchip (p.s. most things can be done informally with rulepack in wildchip)
- yet another feature request to annoy pukey with

I personally like this idea! But it might just be easier (for puke mainly) to just do a wildchip with specific rules.

Ahh, Wildchip. Such a neglected format when it comes to OHBs. You brought up a good point ant1 - a lot of this could be simply defined in the rules of said OHB.

I still like this idea for reasons of maybe steering BotBrs toward lesser-used formats if they have a choice of which obscure format to make their entry in. Like you said...themes!

Basically, what you're saying is, you'd like to host battles with more than one format. And that's kind of a neat idea, but also messy for now . . .

At first, I was thinking this thread was going to be about taking current formats (or consoles) and diverging them by visual, audio and code/programs to make 3 formats out of each. ChannelF and VIC20 will be the first ones! Get yer ASM chops up!!
