For those of you wondering “what the hell is a Sinclair QL,” I’ve got you covered!
The QL is a business-oriented, 16-bit microcomputer made by Sinclair. Yes, the same guys who did the ZX Spectrum. It was a massive flop on the market, selling less than 150,000 units. On top of that, being a business machine, not much care was put into the audio circuitry - an Intel microcontroller with poorly thought out microcode. It sounds like a cross between a PC speaker and a VIC-20!
Currently, there’s only a single piece of software that lets you write music on the QL, called FUQL. It’s pretty easy to get the hang of, but minimalist in its design. I’ve tested it in QemuLator, which despite being donationware is perfectly usable without registering. Simply put what you want to run in a directory named “QL Demo” and potentially modify its boot file. Other emulators like sQLux might work, but I’m not sure.
Here’s a link to both FUQL and an old version of QemuLator that doesn’t have the impulse response of newer versions, for cleaner audio: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Jz7iZw0Qb-uJiiuLXKy_ik_TKsrli_Pn/view?usp=drivesdk
