when i hosted my first battle here, i imagined how cool would be if we could host typeface battles as well

i see that, for submitting a whole typeface, would be only possible on majors - but on minors a character or two might be enough eventually

the ideas of bringing such battle format to BotB would be:
- some botbrs enjoy typefaces
- some botbrs might be curious about how typefaces are made
- Fontforge is a solid software-libre alternative to Fontlab, Fontographer and etc., and some typefaces available on Google Fonts (for example) can show us that, from the quality of the typefaces available there - also, all typefaces available at osp.kitchen (a collective of libre artists that were participative in initiatives like Libre Graphics Meeting) were made on Fontforge (i actually helped something on one of those typefaces)
- BotB can be seen as a type foundry as well, and eventually getting heard among the typeface design community (which would be amazing)
- etc.

i like the idea of typeface battles but

1. fontforge is kinda rough
2. it would make more sense to have TTF or something be the format and not mandate the use of specific software

ooh it's been a long long time since I tried my hand at fontfacery but I do remember enjoying it quite a bit! maybe fontforge is in better shape than the last time I dug in. (edit - I installed it and drew three letters and then it crashed without warning, so... about as good as ever??)

hmmm, now thinking, how many boons would it cost to upload a custom font to use for your profile?? 🤔
