You know I meant to make this post a while ago, but this is a busy time of year. THIS IS THE LAST DAY YOU CAN LIKE THIS POST.
Since 2005 I have been co-organizing a multi-genre (emphasis on multi) holiday music cover/remix/arrangement/occasional original comp and the past couple years have seen some BotBr participation!
Christmasasaurus X2 is this year's offering. I suspect this is the only Christmas album to come out this year with grindcore, synthpop, glitchy ambience, breakcore, fusion, chopped and screwed, hardbass, and more still, but PLEASE prove me wrong if I am, I want to hear it!!
They are all free and I highly recommend especially checking out X, vol 8, vol 5.5, and vol 2 (for some true oldschool chiptune scene giants), but all donations will be given to charity. Info about this year's charity is on the page, obviously direct donation work better, but it looks cool to pay "for" it and have music in your bandcamp account!!!
Historically I have paid the difference between BC and paypal fees so everything made it to the charity, but this year's contribution from Black Dresses made that amount of money CONSIDERABLY HIGHER so I don't think I can, heh.
Aside from that, I just wanted to give a general thank you. I know all accomplishments on BotB, as with anywhere else, can only be attributed to the person or people making them, but this year the rotating cast of the community (and most active XHBrs) really deeply helped get me out of TWO AND A HALF YEARS of nearly complete writer's block. Having immediate feedback, group participation, good (and sometimes bad in a good way) writing prompts, restrictions, and samples given by others, enthusiasm about some of my songs and goofy XHB concepts, being able to literally grow in real time along with people who have COMPLETELY different backgrounds, creative goals, processes, etc is incredibly valuable. Where I saw my creative energy going at the start of the year looked a lot different and more depressing than it does now and I really do have the back and forth at this website to thank for that. Not sure how to express it without getting too emotional or just getting back to OHBs for a bit now that the holiday related Gig Onslaught is over.
Love the online music game.
I didn't want to make two separate posts, but both things feel important. I appreciate you, I appreciate this website, and I hope you're having a fantastic Christmas. If any of the Christamasasaurus albums are cool to you, that rules. And... if you don't celebrate and don't want good, freak-ass holiday music, I hope you're having a nice Saturday.
