I was just wondering whether BotB has ever done a major battle where entries are submitted anonymously, the way they are for XHBs, and if not, whether that's something that anyone is curious about doing. I just figured it might be kind of interesting.

famicompo used to do this though you could often guess some people from a mile off

nooo idea what you mean, i was unable to spot a single opm entry in the entire years of 2020 and 2021, he really blends in so well, like a pigeon in a group of chameleons

i imagine this would pose some challenges in the back end of things... UI and API changes come to mind, for example you wouldn't want someone uploading their MP3 render to have their name show up in #botb chat. unless this was hosted as a really long xhb which could be interesting. maybe it's easier now to shoehorn in multiple formats into an xhb with the new battle engine, voting could be a little broken though heh (potentially downloading a .zip of possibly hundreds of entries that aren't rendered)

it would be fun to have a form next to the entry to guess who the author is. maybe some bonus playa points if you guess correctly.
