Has there ever been a DOS-format tracker, or any tracker for that matter, for the Linux terminal? Has it ever been possible, or would the unrestricted hardware access that DOS provided be required?

EDIT: Or is it because of design limitations of the terminal?

What about FunkTracker Gold? Is that console? I seem to recall it being.

It is, but try to compile it, I haven't been able to.

I made a tracker called VGMTrax0r, but it may have disappeared into oblivion :(

The audio mixing was broken when I released it; I think I added samples as unsigned numbers or something annoying like that.

I honestly can't remember how the format went, but IIRC I had no knowledge of how any of the s3xmodit formats worked internally; I believe VGMTrax0r used 16 channels raw or something like that. The interface took inspiration from IT, though the colour scheme was completely different, and it used ANSI escape codes.

EDIT: @null1024 - Try this build, I haven't ironed out the kinks in it (read: it crashes when you hit space on the song play thing), but it compiles: http://pubacc.wilcox-tech.com/~greaser/stuff/others/funkgold-152-compiled-2011.zip )

Use dosemu in terminal mode (if you can) and run some DOS trackers.

Heh, I was looking at this thread, haha.

I think I've tried that before, 'don't remember if it worked or not.

A word of caution: Don't try and start schism outside of X without specifying you going to use the framebuffer. Otherwise, it will give you an error and proceed to hog your keyboard; you will not be able to switch framebuffers or terminate it (unless there's some SIGKILL-ish shortcut other than ^\ that I don't know of).

This has happened to me twice with a fresh build of 2012's release.
