i felt like bumping this thread to remind everyone of how lucky we are to have a community like this one <3

botb is so cool

making life a little botber every single day! :D

i've been active on this site for about a year now. as of this writing, three hundred and twenty something entries and still going strong!

when i first saw botb.. it was so exciting, i wanted to participate so bad. remember uploading my first hastily constructed stupid-as-heck .it to an allgear.. and that was it, already the site was part of me, and it's been part of me since. was actually kind of overwhelming, had to take a few months off after joining, waiting until i was ready to really dive in. i picked a good time: 2020 was an epic year for the site.

it's a good website. it's human. it's flawed. it's orderly, it's chaotic. it's reasonably wholesome! it's got a history featuring all kinds of characters. there's so much amazing art and music, hell there's so much awful art and music, i know because i'm a contributor of some of it. i appreciate it all. the whole thing is amazing. i cherish the personal connections i've made, many of which are based simply in mutual nerding out over weird noises, which itself is a special, precious thing. 2021 is shaping up to be another epic year for battleofthebits.com; hopefully we can keep this going. i will be trying to help.

I used to wonder about there being a kind of service that found a group of the like 25 to 50ish people in the entire world who were the most like you and connected you to them, but I think it happens naturally on the web, and I think botb is a superset of mine

botb is the chiptune community's chaotic good and i'm all here for it

i keep waiting for the time when we're finally all like "ugh, remember when botb was good? i miss that, it was like a golden age. now it sucks"

It's a pleasure, even through the hardest times there's always been a core of passionate content creators keeping this site alive. I try my best to keep up despite limited freetime or other concerns

I don't post/submit a lot these days (boo adulthood less free time, etc :P ) and suck at words, but I still lurk and wanted to drop by and say that y'all rock and this place is as awesome as ever. Big props to kleeder and keffie and puke7 in particular for bein' the everpresent ubersolid heart and soul, for lack of a better phrase. :P

I keep seeing awesome heartfelt threads like this one pop up, and I think that's a testament to just how wonderful this quirky site is. You can take breaks because of life, but every time you come back even in small ways there's always someone friendly that is glad to see you. The site feels like a lovely weird home and you all feel like lovely weird family.

There are so many reasons that I love this place. It respects each and every form of chiptune/pixle art and puts it in its' own category so that each one can shine on its' own merit.

The collective talent on display here is mind blowing, yet I never really see anyone here with a big head about it, and if someone like that does show up they don't last long :).

My favorite thing though is how open and friendly everyone is to help someone new. As the only time something really gets down voted or disapproved of is when it does not fit the specifications of a compo category properly. Yet, for those humble enough to ask for the help to make their entry properly they will get it, in fact people will go out of their way to help.

I don't know if I have ever seen another website more passionate, friendly, talented, yet humble all at the same time about its' craft and THAT my friends is why I love BOTB!

As evidenced by these post-comments above, I'll have to say: BotB's quite a unique gem amongst the vast internet desertscape. Its community struck me as something that'll lay down their weapons just to help those who are struggling, and are still struggling to this day, with either making art, trackertunes, software, or just about anything under the sun, at no extra cost.
