this would require palettes to be uneditable after saving and publishing.

botbrs can vote on new palettes, palettes over a certain score will be randomly used for guests maybe.
also a palette top list, which resets (monthly/weekly/after a random time?) to encourage the creating of cool(!) palettes
voting and getting high scores could give points or boons or something else to encourage it.

i like this general idea... maybe have it work so that palettes function as they do currently, until/unless the creator chooses to "publish" one, in which case (a) it can't be changed again, (b) others can vote on it.

i wonder if "palettist points" makes any sense, or if related points should be lumped in with grafxicist or something...?

neat idea, though duplicate pallettes may be a bit hard to maintain.

It'll hurt me: if I make a palette? I save often and take a look around the site how it all looks. I also have to ever so slightly tweak the palette colors to be usable on a variety of monitors in a variety of situations.

I seriously don't wanna to create 450329540 versions of the same palette just so I can tweak the colors so it's not a pain to use with a 1500 kelvin display temperature.

You want palette voting? Have a palette 'publish' button first that locks the colors and lets people vote.

I still think palette colors should be usable as both a theme and palette-limited drawing battle formats.

I agree with Xu, definitely shouldn't put a palette up for votes every time the creator clicks the save button. But optionally, if they want, they can "publish" it to indicate it's finalized. Publish != Save :)

xterm makes an excellent point here. it'll at the very least let botbrs choose which palettes they want rated and which ones they want editable. not only that, the idea of palettists in general (palette voting, points for it, etc) would incentivize making palettes more than just having a different look to botb. it's like pedagogist points!

I fully agree with lumby. Optionally maybe introduce a boon fee for leaving your palette editable and not subject to ratings

also realized a nice consequence of this: if you are using someone else's palette, now if that palette were finalized/published, your site viewing experience could no longer be affected by the creator deciding to change that previously-saved palette.

i was thinking a while back too - botbrs should maybe get some kind of reward for others choosing to use their palette... in the absence of any of this thread's ideas, that reward could simply be boons :)
