thanks! it feels real cozy here, knock on wood, but getting my feet wet with these contests has been breaking me out of a bit of an artistic slump I've been in for uh a long time now - and everybody is so nice ๐ฅบ
hello "aura twin"! that's like the cooler lesser known sibling of aphex twin. actually your aura looks blue for me but maybe that's browser caching.
anyway happy new year!! looking forward to more block related shenanigans in 2024
hi! re: your question on my profile, the weekly seasonal allgear is the only thing i consistently do a listening party for, though sometimes if i'm around for one of the formats that's more difficult to get playback set up for, like the mt32 or xg midis, i will stream those for ease of voting. (maybe i should do this for pc98 too..) i guess there's nothing really stopping me from doing it for more things though! i'll keep that in mind. i'm glad you had fun! i think it's a fun way to bring people together too
also, usually at some point during the voting period of majors, somebody (or somebodies) hosts a synclisten of the entries so people can listen along and vote. lately cabbage drop's been doing this. and, right after voting closes, the host of the major does an ~official results stream~ where the rankings are announced and the songs are played as we go. that's always the Big Party
(Responding to your comment on my profile) Yeah I think I agree with your opinions, especially the instakill spikes lol. Unfortunately the only game in your holy trinity of Metroidvanias that I've played is Hollow Knight. I'd love to play Castlevania: Symphony of the Night someday.
When is botb going to allow us to tag other users, that would make these conversations less awkwardly between two profiles lol
every tiem i see ur username , i think of those friggin tae kwon do classes that i always pass by. where the instructor is like "kick kick kick!" and the kids r like "block block block!"
hey sorry to bother you but how do you download the bitpack? I keep being sent to this weird code screen and it says like a code word, and they all do that
Well, I appreciate that you found it, and I must say that it's quite more energetic than my vocals (due to the fact that there's always someone near or over the house, so I couldn't really do it).
Thank you, everyone, for rattling burfday wishes. Now I can reply...
While I concur with your Cave Story analysis, how do you determine whether progression options are nonlinear โenoughโ? Even Super Metroid's progression is basically linear. (Is the player even allowed to defeat bosses out of order, for example? It's been a while, but I seem to remember the answer being no.)
Or, does the linearity you reference pertain to environment exploration and not necessarily storyline progression?
By the way, you mentioned playing Cave Story not long after release, so now I have to ask: Did you happen to play Eternal Daughter as well?
I never tried Kero Blaster, though I did play Studio Pixel's seal-clubbing game.
