I'm not familiar with the SM8521 soundchip. But if your entry is of any indication, it sounds like a mix between the C64 and the TurboGrafx-16.

Its basically 2 32 bit long, 16bit tall wavetable channels with one noise channel
So it is kinda like the PC-Engine
Not sure where you got C64 from though...

Gotcha! So my assumption wasn't far-off...

Hmm the thin phaser lead at 0:47 is what sounds a little C64-ish to me.

And the bubbly arps later on.

OOOHH. That. Ok, so basically, the thin phaser lead was done via 2 sawtooths
1 normal one, and 1 inverted, slightly detuned one.
so one normal
/
/
and one detuned
\
\
both playing the same notes
the arps, (if I'm correct of what you mean) are just fast decaying triangle arpeggios.

I can definitely hear the "C-64" sound in the arpeggios, and any time there's raw unfiltered PWM it's going to evoke the SID, just like portamento on a square wave is going to evoke the Minimoog.

Really cool song here, the initial bassline reminds me of Maniac Mansion, but funked up and extra-swaggery. Nice and meaty, and a lot of different ideas all coming together. Thank you for making it!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but your .vgm file is basically blank since the SM8521 isn't part of VGM format and Furnace doesn't actually write anything for that chip into the .vgm file. (To be fair Furnace doesn't really make this obvious!)
