there is an album by the bassist for Do Make Say Think, Charles Spearin, that pursues this concept (pitch of speech) as its central focus, called The Happiness Project. he recorded interviews with his neighbors loosely themed around the concept of happiness, and wrote music using those conversations. i had the pleasure of seeing them do some of those tunes live (alongside samples of the speaking) as an opening set for a DMST show in like 2010, and it really opened my brain up. was probably the first time i ever thought about the natural pitches of human speech in conversation.
