Remynfv's commentary:
This is the first song I've submitted since last years SPOOPY SEVEN, and the similarities are comical. Once again I summon a new collaborator to sign up for BoTB, once again the song was made in a 5-day crunch, and once again the song is exactly 4:20. nice ;)
really though, the lyrics for this were written months ago, but i had never had the motivation to record them and figure out how the HECK to produce it. cue me checking botb and seeing SPOOPY EIGHT and going hmmmmmmm, i bet that spooky song about a guy building a god out of metal and flesh would work for this >:) and so here we are!
oh another incredibly silly bit of trivia, im not the *best* at singing, but on my first attempt i got a good take. unfortunately, this was with the microphone of an old pixel 3a, so the audio quality was Not Ideal. i did more takes with a better mic, but didn't like how they sounded, and i didn't have time to keep trying. so instead, i used the good mic takes to train an *ai voice changer of myself*, which i fed the bad quality take through. i ended up with a take that sounded basically identical to the original, just with drastically better quality.
Ophbee's commentary:
This song was written back in May, heavily driven by my love of religious imagery, and my friend’s love for robots.

Lyrics:
yesterday i built god out of sheet metal and rocks
wire after wire, filled with unfounded desire
to create the creator, the life behind us all!
charge forward like icarus, just as destined to fall
i waited till the sky fell dark and brought it to the field
the clouds were dark and full of promise, yet held no yield
I wield my mighty cattle prod, like god creating man
and with a touch of hesitation, enact my master plan
and so I stood there, transfixed only momentarily in abject and unscientific horror, as the mass of silicon and ligament ground gears into flesh. you could hear the faint buzzing of electricity, and if that wasn’t enough? i felt it. it was so subtle at first, i nearly believed it to be my own, until i felt it through the earth below me. his heartbeat, pressing through the ground as if he was connected to the whole planet. i had created a new deity.
I always knew I could
and now the deed is done
the genie won't go back
in the lamp
a god not made of wood
but made of steel and bone
I stepped before His face
and I prayed
and i asked him the meaning of life
and the cause of the suffering of all mankind
isn’t it glorious to be alive?
why did you build us to die?
yesterday i built a god out of quartz and human flesh
but now my god is dumb as rocks,
maybe i should start afresh
I asked a simple question,
"why are we alive?"
and though he gave an answer
this is what he said:
why is the meaning of life-
all that important when it's what you're given
bask in the glory of what was forbidden
you've gone too far
but somehow the sky turned to light
I saw the creation id made in the night
it's flesh and it's wires and one sunken eye
was it worth taking a life?
and i asked it the meaning of life
and the cause of the suffering of all mankind
isn’t it horrible to be alive?
why did you build us to die?
I packed my bags and ran
I've made a horrific mistake
now the only thing that's left to do
is for me to flee the state
no matter how far iii go
I hear it's beating heart
pounding in my head
we will never be apart
yesterday i built god
and i hope it turns to rot
i beg you, learn from my mistake
it’s not our job to mess with fate
