Journey of the Super-Musician

  35th/365   Σ26.376   Feb 5th 2014 1:33pm

A suite chronicling a journey of a super-musician who gained super powers one night...

(to the host of the stream: you may skip the remainder of the description if you wish)

0:00-0:39
We start with some random "shooting star" that falls from the sky and goes KABOOM! Our musician is near the site and gets blasted away.

0:40-1:54
The musician, shaken but OK, returns to the scene to find out that the "shooting star" is glowing and giving off all sorts of weird vibes. His curiosity gets the best of him, and ends up with...

1:55-2:21
...super powers! Probably along the typical superhero power lineup.

2:22-2:37
The hero attempts to use his superpowers to make music.

2:38-3:22
He begins to sing along with his melody that he just created to determine what else to add on... and then realizes he can sing like a NES! Or he could sing like whatever chip he desires to be (due to the limitations of the NSF file, we'll quietly assume NES only).

3:23-4:13
He promptly uses this singing ability to attract some interest.

4:14-5:03
He attracts some attention alright: his fellow musician friends come on over wondering who's singing that chip music.

5:04-5:37
Now comes the unwanted part: A villain with the same powers enters, although with a potential exception since his ability to chip-sing is not demonstrated.

5:38-5:59
The villain promptly kidnaps the hero's computers and the other musicians attending. In this case, the music that was playing in the previous segment is cut off mid-song to indicate the computer being unplugged suddenly.

6:00-6:22
The hero follows pursuit!

6:23-8:08
Cue a dangerous trek into some sort of lair.

8:09-8:45
The hero encounters the villain.

8:46-9:32
Cue fight.

9:33-9:47
The hero ultimately wins the fight and rescues his computers... and fellow musicians!

9:48-12:48
The hero ends up partying with the musicians he rescued to celebrate this victory. What better place to go have a party than Winter Chip 9?

12:49-14:21
The party gets crazy, to say the least.

14:22-15:26
Little does the superhero realize that his powers are slowly draining.

15:27-15:35
The party concludes and the musicians exit.

15:36-15:52
The villain comes back, superpowers intact. However, he looks like as though he has experimented on himself... and thus looks a bit worse for wear.

15:53-16:36
Our hero gets captured by the villain. The villain has somehow remained powerful longer than the hero has, so the hero is outclassed this time.

16:37
Uh oh. The dreaded commercial break. It's coming a bit late in the show, but it has inevitably occurred. And what do you suppose the commercial is? Well, it's longer than your traditional commercial break, because it features... more Winter Chip 9 entries!

your long songs are better digested when each bit/section is described in this way, I like it!

To the host of the stream: Your timing need not be exact if you do intend on doing a play-by-play on this and its Wildchip sequel. Especially if there's too much text for the time I specified.

Programmatic chiptune at its finest. I think this might be my favourite piece I've heard from you :)

Well, I don't think I'll be lasting long on the NES without ideas like this coming up from time to time. Otherwise, the chip would indeed grow stale in my mind...

The following is behind the scenes commentary.

This entry took a while to make because I wanted to make something that wasn't so overly generic. Plus, I had other stuff going on in real life. I knew the competition I was going up against was going to be huge. For my SNES entry, I made one rejected draft until I came up with the song bit by bit. For my NES entry... I actually have two rejected versions. The third one was produced, although without a general idea at first. I decided a suite was the best approach once I produced a few patterns in two different segments... but more importantly, I came up with something that could theoretically belong in a movie... or TV show on a technicality.

There is supposed to be a second part. It's not in here because of time constraints, hardware limitations... did I forget to mention missing expansion chips? ^_^
