never gets too repetitive, high quality samples--especially the snare--interesting melodies and every part seems to know what is doing. it also loops perfectly.

Your C700 song has failed to export properly. I see all samples and no music data in your .spc file... presumably you were aiming for a .sfc file export?

What may have happened is that you tried a .spc file export, and got a .spc file with a .700 file. That is a Script700 file, which isn't something this site takes. ROM files, that being .smc or .sfc files, are legal for a music submission within the usual limitations.

kff: if there's no *music* data then they might've just forgotten to actually play the song when recording the spc

Sorry, this is my first spc...I thought everything exported fine since it plays accurately in SPC700 Player (◞‸◟;)

re: what luna said - i did in fact not let the song play during the recording phase, as the manuals and info in the lyceum stated that the project could just be rendered as well and it would hit the same end point flag. (and it did in fact generate an SPC at that point)

Would recording again but letting it run in real time fix things?

SPC700 Player was also processing the Script700 file that was generated, hence why it worked.

There is a setting in "Set Recorder..." that will allow you to save a .smc file in there. Just mark the checkbox in there accordingly, re-export your song, then resubmit the entry.

I've uploaded a working .smc so the entry can be made legal again!

No matter what I try, I'm unable to get any .spc export from C700 without it packaging a dependent .700 file as well. Is this just a limitation of the VST?

The answer is that the music data plus the sample data is too large to fit into a .spc file. It generates a Script700 file if there is a memory overflow when trying to generate a .spc file.

C700 is not a very efficient music format, consisting of a bunch of raw DSP register writes, to put things simply, but for a music entry it's fine.

From a measurement standpoint, you have 2944 (or $0B80) bytes left in SPC700 RAM. Your song consumes 13,506 (or $34C2) bytes. The rest of it is taken up by your echo buffer (you've used an EDL of 9), the sample directory (there's 256 entries allocated), and the SPC700 program.

Great first entry! You used the echo very knowledgeably. Thank you for using the objectively coolest soundchip on your first entry I'm not biased
