good idea. this whole concept including voting categories, entry conditions etc is of course very much open to input/improvement. that’s teamwork!

While this is a great idea this poses the problem of botbrs who want to participate but dont get chosen to be in a band. If there were some sort of organized way we could go about making sure the teams are the equal size and certain teams aren’t totally stacked I think that would make this really fun.

agreed, don't want anyone feeling left out. an easy solution would be a dedicated forum post for people who want to participate to make themselves known and easily find each other.*

we could go about making sure the teams are the equal size...
to me the potential for different sized teams is a feature, not a bug. the different group dynamics of a duo vs a quintet+ make for different creative environments. additionally, larger groups would have the handicap of having to find times where all members are free at once, and working around time zones to boot! so it's not like more collaborators necessarily = advantage.

it's not unusual for some of the highest-level BotBrs to collaborate with each other and dominate majors, and i never thought anybody considered that problematic. is it? really, this is an open question.

totally agree with roz here.. can't see this going any other way than just letting people team up how they want and having fun! adding an organizational filter just makes it sound like a schoolwork group project

those are some good points roz, i'm all on board dont get me wrong. i just feel like a battle created for the sole purpose of collaboration might be a bit better to have some sort of "mediator" if you will to make sure teams are at least a little fair relating to the "stacked" botbrs

If interpreted literally, this prompt would allow things that don't really fit the "band" aesthetic (e.g., an ordinary, asynchronous chiptune collab with 1 live-played solo.) Is this what you had in mind? (For the record, I think this is good -- I'd worry that insisting on any closer adherence to the "band" format poses too high of a barrier to entry.)

Also, I love the idea of a battle based around collabs.

your thoughts are more or less my thoughts; while the title and cover art are gently suggestive of a certain 'aesthetic', the actual entry criteria and voting categories are supposed to be as permissive as possible. if you're making something together and having fun, you're good!

although i mean, if BotBrs did get together and jam out some tunes garage-band style, that would be awesome.
