There's a difference between drawing in mspaint and it looking like it was done in mspaint, and using the entirely wrong program to emulate the pixel art style.

The former of which is not allowed in pixel format but IS allowed in the draw format.

Or we could not take this too seriously and have some fun instead.

I'm actually usually occupied and can't ohc late during the night but I can squeeze a vote in. Believe you me I'd love to work on an entry for every compo I have the freedom to vote in. (to say nothing of the amount of entries I don't submit because they are of poor quality)

Okay, that's fair. Anyway I think I brought up a while ago that you can't really limit what tools people use to make their art, since that's not something you can check. Besides there's not much you can do in an hour so people are gonna take shortcuts of course.

I personally enjoy the more fun style rather than the strict pixel art style of ohbs. I guess we could do more draw format now that rare formats are more common, though pixel is better established and disallows some types of drawings. I guess pixel is more widely understood as digital, less detailed drawings?

Please reread 3rd post in the thread. I already clarified that there is no attempt to limit the tool used. i.e. not all LSDJ entries are lsdj-core

And yes, obviously the solution is to host more draw compos because that's what the n00bs like to submit. That's all I want n00bs to want. No nsf+ in nsf, no dual pokey in pokey, no draw in pixel.

I understood the first paragraph in that post as you trying to set some limit on the tools that can be used, so that's why I said that in my previous post. I'm pointing at "using the entirely wrong program to emulate the pixel art style" specifically. Didn't seem clear enough to me.

More draw battles wouldn't hurt, mighties with 7+ badges can host them too so it'd be cool to see more. I kinda miss when there's no pixel/draw compos for a while but I have the bad luck of seeing them when they're ending. -_-

pixel art is too vague of a category to decide what is pixel and what is not pixel

on most of the platforms that pixel art was pioneered on back in teh old dayz, you could have just as easily done "mspaint style art" as legitimate pixel art. therefore, i don't think it's not legitimate, regardless of what you think of it personally. it's not the same as "no nsf+ in nsf"

i think xyz's complaint is valid, and he's not the first one to make it.

precedent says that format ambiguity is left in the hands of the voters. pixel is essentially visual wildchip; pixel entries don't have to conform to any specific hardware's visual capabilities but they do have to look like "pixel art", whatever that means, just like how wildchip entries do have to sound like "chipmusic", whatever that means.

my suggestion is to use the draw format if you want to be sure that your battle unambiguously permits all sorts of digital (and traditional) art, and to expect voters to draw semi-arbitrary lines of authenticity otherwise.
