I looked into TED a bit. Didn't see any tools. I'm sure I'm missing something, but mostly what I found was the plogue chipsounds VST (unacceptable) and the plus/4 VICE emulator (that could be programmed for). I am def interested in it as it is a unique chip. Maybe we could run a QUADRILOGY in teh FUTUREZ!!

My major problem is that the C64 is actually hard on my ears in the long run these days. That's not good. Other than that, maybe I'll make something... if I can get over the fact that I find the SID to be a curse on my ears these days (well... maybe it has to do with the traditional pulse-synths).

My favourite also. I like the idea to restrict battle to few formats and tight 64kb size limit which crystalize the Commodore core genre, making the focus clear.

the only thing i dont like so far is the emergence of the defectmask tag - we all have tracker preferences and thats fine, but theres zero call to be anonymously petty about it in the space designed for listening to an entry. cant imagine that the people that have made the stuff appreciate it and its hardly cc.

oh baby
Word of warning: milkytracker 0.90.86 mangles saving samples in MODs.
I was going to get started on my entry, and then that bug bit me.

also, the milky site is down :Y

[edit]
also, I'm too stupid to figure out how to get the most recent version (which may or may not have fixed that -- there's a fair few fixes in there -- it's gotten several commits since the last stable release in 2013) to build from git (autotools doesn't seem to want to make a makefile for the rtmidi stuff, so the build just dies when it gets to that point, would be nice to disable that since I have no intention of ever using Milky's midi support)

null1024, you don't need autotools to create a makefile for the midi stuff. Just
1) git clone
2) autoreconf -i
3) rm src/midi/rtmidi
4) git submodule init
5) git submodule update
6) ./configure
7) make
8) enjoy milkytracker 0.90.87 (binary is in /src/tracker, if you don't want to install)

@moviemovies1:
having the same issue on my windows machine with that link (running Win7 Ultimate, 64bit)
samples still get screwed up

@irrlicht project:
good news: that worked just fine, and I don't seem to have the mod sample bug, just built it on a machine running Fedora 24
bad news: the key mapping for note input is completely and utterly screwed up :Y

[edit]
reading the source, apparently they're deliberately screwed up (in src/tracker/PatternEditorControlKeyboard.cpp), it's probably for a different keyboard layout, thought it was just some weird bug cropping up
will look into how it used to be for standard qwerty keyboards later (it's 12:31am now and I have work at 9am today :Y)

[edit 2]
the source might be azerty layout by default
but more of the notes would be in the right order than what I'm getting if that was the case, really need to look into this more later

if I wasn't infinitely lazy, I'd see if there was a way to just make it so that it read note layouts from a keymap file, which is what it should be doing instead of being hard mapped like that

@irrlicht project:
Thanks, that solved it. I've now got a working Linux binary.
now I can get to work on my mod

here's a windows build for anyone else as well -- 32bit, vs2013 express, works on my machine and haven't even attempted to run it on anything else
https://mega.nz/#!gk8SBTSA!QNzH_jbVLbVn10ULwsL3dBpxyrP2CDtQP3KCTaP1Gj4
sources included

had to make two changes to get it to build there, so I dunno if it'll mangle your modules or crash
and it's right from GIT anyway -- so even if I didn't break it, it might have issues I haven't found yet

the changes were namely:
replacing
#include "afxres.h"
with
#include "WinResrc.h"
#define IDC_STATIC -1

and replacing
std::min(...stuff I can't remember...)
with just min(...stuff I can't remember...)

assuming it doesn't break horribly, go and enjoy milkytracker "0.90.87"
at the absolute least, it won't mangle your .mod samples like 0.90.86
From my really, really limited testing, this build also doesn't exhibit another bug that plagued me on Windows across a few machines, where it'd randomly jump around in a song every once in a while (I may have simply gotten lucky though, gonna need to use it some more).
that is a lie, it struck me agan -- but it's a fair bit rarer at least

It's probably stable enough, but caveat emptor and all that jazz.
The only real issue I've had is that the titlebar will occasionally go a bit off the screen when starting up, so shift+rightclick the taskbar button, press an arrowkey, and move it around with the mouse/arrowkeys until it's back in position.

on an unrelated note, I'm beginning to hate the .mod format :Y

[edit]
if you go into the playback options menu when editing a .mod and leave, it'll screw up the coloring it's supposed to do for out-of-range notes completely, but other than that, I've had no issues after several hours of use, no crashing or mangling or anything

Technically is supposed to be 12 according to the song, but I couldn't think of 8 other BotB related things that also correlate with those amounts (and apparently there are 8 keffie alts wow)

Yeah but the admins only sent you four of them on the fourth day. They'll send you the remaining four on the fifth day. I don't know what they'll do after that, though....

Did you guys change how you charge for albums? I thought the newest release was supposed to be free. No real problem if things have changed again, I'm just cheap curious.

This album misses many great entries imo, but among those included Mushroom Argument, Noodlebrain, and 2hr Jam really kick arses :^)

There were 197 donloads of this album on the first day. I'm guessing it was charting on bandcamp. No one donated for it. Oh well.
