I think pixel = anything, any resolution, as long as it's pixel art
chipbattle_art: a cover album, it must fit the specified resolution and the 'Summer' and 'Chip' themes (example: deedz of men!)(not rly). being a pixel art is recommended since it's CHIP but not obligatory.

as for 'chip', well, every category is chip-related so there isn't even a way it wouldn't fit such a theme haha
unless you submit a non-chiptune song to wildchip, which i believe that already happened, i think... honestly i dont mind, if the song is good i wont downvote it (if its bad it will get already a bad vote so i wont downvote either)

it is called summer chip only because it is currently summer in the northern hemisphere, which explains why yibbon could not join this (fck yib; snow is sticky this time of year)

also both vector art and pixel art are rasterized, plus there is no difference between them for some people
, so the only difference between "pixel" and "chipbattle_art" should be whether the submitted image prominently features descriptors of summer chip iv (unless you are making an ass-large gif and breaks one of the upload size limits)

You're allowed to vote however you like, that's always been the spirit of BotB. So everyone's right! WOW!

I do think it's interesting that the only format that I've seen always follows the expectations Xyz has mentioned is the chipbattle art category. Unless it's a joke entry, they're ALWAYS about the season, at least for the past few years. One of the Winter Chip winning chipbattle arts was a boxing ring I think. I don't know how wintery that is.

But songwriting is a little more, uh, open-minded in interpretation. You could probably make an argument for any song to be summer themed if you tried hard enough. If I had to guess, I think the majority of BotB does not take the season into consideration when songwriting for a major. But it's ok if you do.

yeah, without lyrics, pretty much any catchy ditty is vaguely "summer".

i personally do not really pay attention to the seasons, except maybe for naming inspiration. i think sticking to a recognizable seasonal style really limits the variety of music to be made.

that said, there's nothing wrong with incorporating the season into your songs. but i don't think too many botbrs will be looking for that, so don't worry about it too much.

for the record, i interpreted "springy" like "spring in your step", not really seasonal. i think the point of the categories is more to get you to look at the song 5 different ways, 5 different times. i don't think puke is too concerned with everybody being on the same page for what the categories mean, or he'd have picked clearer category names or defined each category somewhere.

it's all for fun anyway. just go write a cool song, ya dingus!

Just about ready to return, since I'm almost done producing said game soundtrack. The formats I am most likely to consider are...

- Adlib
- AY-3-8910/YM2149 (my main concern is producing a result that is actually too fancy, surprisingly... this is because I am using an Atari ST emulator and maxYMiser Live v1.33a)
- 12k module
- Wildchip (I'll reserve this for my prototype SPC sound driver, if I ever make it during this period of time.)

There are two of them that don't have any entries. One of them I can't even remotely do unless I was to go through the trouble of finding an Amiga emulator, and I think it would be too much trouble for me at this time.

The other one, SAPx2? I'm already detracted from that because it's a hack to my knowledge.
I'd have to play them through Audio Overload (that's the only SAP player I know of), and I need register IDs for the second POKEY chip. Then maybe I'll code a sound driver with TASM. I have an Atari computer emulator, but playback is probably going to be poor because we're dealing with two POKEY chips...

Update: Soundtrack complete! I'm now good to go for now. The game's name? Duke Dashington. ;)

So these are the formats I'm considering actually entering:
- AdLib, even though I hate AT2. I love that OPL sound though <3
- Amiga .MOD, because I need to learn to ModPlug.
- Maybe AY, because PSG is amazing.
- PCE, because it's my favorite non-FM sound chip.
- MIDI, because soundfonts are amazing.
- 12k mod, because I have this neat little wintery ice cave loop. And Summer Chip is the best time to submit that kind of stuff.
- Definitely NSF-only. My first tracker was Famitracker, and I've loved it from day 1.
- pixel, so that I can prototype my video game.
- Genesis for sure.

No more entries from me (only a SNES entry this time). My prototype sound driver is not yet developed to the point where I can even make a test song!

Plus, that's quite literally what I've been doing for all of this time: coding away and inventing concepts. I have decided not to add any more command IDs for patterns and orders at this time. Plus, panning and pitch envelopes have not had their formats defined yet (panning will probably be similar to psuedo-synth, only less fancy).
