oh boy perhaps a use for all the random bullshit I have in my closet and garage

I don't have a super clear picture of what this genre would look like, aside from the battle album cover and like - collage?? But I think I can get into that.

curious because one of the things that gets graded is "records sampled" & the examples provided include "old WIPs" and "thrift store records", but we can only submit for visuals.. is there gonna be an audio format that we can submit for..? am i just misinterpreting?

The original proposal for the battle suggested it could be both visuall and allgear, and the description of this battle is copied over from that proposal even though the allgear aspect wasn't.

Sorry for the confusion on this regarding the comments -- admins discussed and decided to leave this one visual only for the time being. If there's a determination to change this, we'll try and leave ample time for audio entries, but I wouldn't count on that at the moment.

Chop some funky stuff up!

to give further info: monthlies are generally meant to be single format majors. so even though the original proposals often had more than one format suggested, we had to pick only one for the schedule.

in this case, for march we planned two monthlies. one being audio (chipwest emo) and one being graphical (this one)

in other words, its not a mistake, it was planned like this c:

ah that makes sense @kleeder

and last February we had field recording (audio) and appreciate nature (graphical)

someday we could do one called Funk Junk which is allgear then, that'd be quite awesome future.
although, I always love to recycle old samples for my tunez, anyways....

it's actually nice to see the monthlies follow this pattern of audio and graphical/other, gives a lot of formats a chance to shine especially when they're not featured in a major. hopefully that's the standard going forward

thanks! since creating the major battle schedule was mostly my responsibility for the past two years, I'm glad to hear that this general idea is well received.
obviously, the "perfect schedule" doesn't exist, but what I (and the admins too (it's not like I'm completely on my own with this, obviously)) try to achieve, is a good mix of music and non-music monthlies. I also try to keep in mind the big seasonal majors. e.g. during winter or summer chip, the music monthly is more mixist-leaning, while during spring tracks and fall season, the music monthly is more chipist-leaning.

I wldnt call it a standard going forward, but it is "the best practice" to make sure we get the biggest variety in our major battle line up.
this only works with enough variety in future battle submissions of course, and also depends a little on the available monthly hosts, which is another thing I try to keep varied when planning the schedule. lot of stuff to consider c:

sorry I kinda hijacked this battle thread for some general insight on the battle schedule x))

@kleeder: i think what you and the admins have been doing in regards to each month and their monthl(y/ies) really does complement what else is happening as well. i guess to give my perspective as a non-admin, it feels like there could be anything at any given time when it comes to major battles. for example, graphx ]|[ could be happening this year and it could not. there could be a game jam, there could not. i think having that variety is key to keeping engagement with the game up as it gets people wondering what the next month has in store or not, this being a great example. i was NOT expecting a visuall battle this month and yet, here it is!

it's kinda why i don't try to predict what's going to happen with much seriousness. i could go "GUYS GRAPHX ]|[ IS GONNA HAPPEN I JUST KNOW IT" and feed into my insatiable hunger for another graphx, but that might as well be bluster. every time a new monthly comes up, even if i don't have the time to participate in it (which is much more common now that i'm in college), i'm still willing to see what people make for it and building that enthusiasm to see what a major brings is something that takes thinking and effort to pull off. hell, i don't think i could consistently do it were i given the chance

of course, a lot of that relies on those future battle submissions as well, and am i grateful this iteration had some bangers as well. some of them i can't wait to become battles, but that's probably for another thread. in either case, these monthlies really do exemplify the communal nature of botb and how a lot of that comes together to make some really awesome things happen

...wait, what was this thread again?
OH, right, battle. battle good, i vote on battle :)

for a visual major, im surprised with the lack of entries halfway through
maybe the last second (or day, or week) sprint will give this battle some life or smth

To clarify, is it allowed to take pictures of stuff separately, and compile them together digitally?

I’ve just moved into an apartment and have a lot of stuff to rifle through, so if I don’t get too preoccupied this might be a good avenue to compel me to start unboxing stuff…

@icrawfish - I think compiling pictures digitally works, as long as your materials are still in keeping with the junk/garbage spirit of the battle.
