Writing a new album full of LSDJ, and now this comes up.... I'm going to be happily busy in the next couple of months ^_^
I'm still new to Famitracker but I'll give it my best shot.

Just to clarify
-Original (2a03, self explanatory)
-Original Unrestricted (expansions(?))
-Cover
-Freestyle (anything else as long as there is an NSF in there)

Question:
Is the Cover section synonymous with Freestyle, but obviously as a cover? For instance if I wanted to write and submit a cover with vocals or additional instruments, is that allowed?

Thought of a q; are submissions anonymous until voting is over, like in OHBs and ####mania, or are the authors known throughout, like in majors?

DBOYD, covers are intended to be submitted as .nsf, which rules out freestyle! I'm still a bit confused on whether or not expansions are allowed in the cover section, though.

I could have been more clear about this, but at the beginning of the video, I say that Famicompo Pico allows any expansions, meaning it applies to all formats.

EDIT: Actually, I do say it outright at 4:46.

Yeah, it (seems like) it pretty much works the same way as with the old series - any expansions in either category, although Original 2a03 and expasions are separated. I assume this is to do with the cartridge prize ;D

I hope they're anon, in keeping with the tradition (anonymous compos are more fun anyway - I like not knowing who made what... unless I suss them out :P )

I asked kfaraday during the live stream, and he said that submissions are anonymous (presumably until voting is over).

DPCM is included in 2A03.

Okay so... If I make something that is, for example, 2a03+FDS+VRC7, or any multi-expansion configuration, would that be permissible as Original (Unrestricted) because it'll still export to nsf, or do I need to instead submit it to Freestyle?

The original Famicompo supported multiple expansions. I believe they're still supported here because it still exports to NSF.

Extra points for anyone who chooses the Tedious ASM Manipulation approach

If I wanted to, I could have gone for the Tedious ASM Manipulation approach... if I wanted to design my own sound driver. Sadly, my idea of Tedious ASM Manipulation includes the idea of either using end of DPCM IRQs or modifying the sample pointer while the sample is playing with extra small DPCM samples to pull off some psuedo-DPCM synth... so... yeah...

I'm a bit too attracted to an entry that I revived to be thinking about designing my own sound driver for this system... unless it's for a video game.

Famicompo Pico is almost over! D:

As the Japanese liaison of this compo (I am also AzumayaAru), I can say that things have kinda gone smoothly on the Japanese side despite being some hesitation at first. As I've learned from observation:

- Japanese New Years is like our Christmas: srs bsns (compo runs an extra 8 hours into the New Year if you're based in Japan)
- Winter Comiket 87 also got in the way of Japan's end stretch of the compo (December 28th to December 30th)
- Japanese chip composers probably are not as speedy as us English speakers, noting from the numerous worries of not being able to submit on time (though the above two points could also play in a factor, alongside other things like work, school, etc.)

Needless to say, though, despite those hardships I listed, there /are/ Japanese submissions for the compo, which I think is awesome in its own right! There probably might not have been as much exposure to the JP crowd if it was just in English, which is why I decided to step in and assist in making Famicompo Pico bilingual!

US folk: Be sure to submit earlier than usual since the deadline is based on UTC!

I will be ready to retrieve the entries... however, I never voted on Famicompo due to a combination of lots of entries (there were 300+ entries during Famicompo 10) and the fact that I have to play them through FlashNSF. Plus, my G5 was less cooperative in that context. Personally, I don't plan to vote anyways.

The freestyle entries might be a bit much for me, depending on how many of them there are. They could be as large as 100 MB combined!

There's only a 7MB limit for Freestyle, IIRC, so it might not really be that big depending on how many people participated in said category.

That being said, I don't think the amount of entries are going to be going down anytime soon, especially since unlimited entries were allowed this time around.

Windows Explorer unzipped the files just fine as well.

These renders are in stereo. NES music is played back in mono to my knowledge. Therefore, I am not willing to listen to these renders at the moment.

Tripflag is the one who rendered them, so I highly doubt he cheated for everybody.

Soooo we (read: I) kinda goofed up thinking that having the livestream a week after the packs were made public was in any way a good idea.

Highly considering moving the livestream to an earlier date. That is, if y'all haven't planned on doing one yourselves earlier than tomorrow night PST at the earliest.'

However, in the interest of the Japanese, I will keep with my plans to stream on Saturday and Sunday at 10PM UTC. Despite them having to get up at 7 in the morning to view the stream, Monday is a holiday for them which means potentially more viewership from the country. Conducting the stream any earlier in the weekday will result in most of them missing the livestream because of work.

If anyone in the west wants to host their own livestream feeling that this still too long of a wait, feel free to do so; we will not stop you. All I ask is that you understand why we chose the date that we chose.
