So for about a week now I've been trying to get a renoise battle going but I either have horrible luck with timing or not a lot of people are interested in Renoise.If you haven't downloaded renoise yet, you should do that right now! Contrary to what a lot of people think (based on what I've heard) you don't need to buy Renoise to use it! The demo is fully functional in pretty much every way with no limitations except for WAV export! All the DSPs work, saving xrns files (renoise module) works! It's super powerful and is a wonderful DAW with tons of possibilities. There's bitcrushers, filters, reverbs, ring mods, sends, distortions of various kinds, side chaining, lfos, and so much more!

If your reason for not using Renoise is "I've never used it before", then you better fix that now! Did that excuse stop you from using MilkyTracker or Famitracker???? ? ?? ? ? / ? probably not!

Ok so the main reason for this post is cause I just want a renoise battle. Since sporadically asking #botb doesn't seem to be effective at getting one started, I want to schedule one for August the 18th, 9:00PM EDT, a.k.a. my birthday. The time can change (date too if there's a lot of busy people since it is a monday) and if you prefer a better time, let me know in the comments. If there's a strong vote for a different time/date then I will change it to the more popular choice. Ok, so that's plenty of time for you guys to download it and get acquainted.

So, how can you prepare for this renoise battle?
First, download it -> http://renoise.com/
Then read the official tutorials -> http://tutorials.renoise.com/wiki/Main_Page
Lastly, experiment with what you can do! Try chaining loads of effects, or tweaking values to get the perfect noises you want, figure out what sounds good!

I want to make sure everyone who wants to join this battle is ready. If you have any questions about the battle, renoise, or anything else related to this post, ask away and I'll answer to the best of my abilities.

I could do 11:59 on the 18th! If more people like that then it's definitely an option. I could put a bitpack together also... but i may be lenient on allowing outside samples.

Midnight is too late for me. I'm usually out by 11 PM EDT.

I don't think I'll join in because of the version of Renoise I'm using. I'm a bit afraid of incompatibility with songs made with later versions of Renoise. The latest version of Renoise is incompatible with my computer to my knowledge.

protip: for cheap rendering use Stereo Mix (it's not like the MP3 render's meant to be ~highest fidelity~)

I'm always up for learning new programs, I'd join this OHC if it's not too late and we have a sample based bitpack

KungFuFurby, that sucks )^: What's the reasong 3.0 doesn't work on your computer?

Delek, most of that stuff (besides asio and wav) wouldn't practically be used in an OHB. However, in the bitpack I could disallow rendering/freezing plugin instruments to samples for those with the full version so they don't have an upper-hand.

Slimeball, if you can make it, do it! I wouldn't have entered a single s3xmodit if it wasn't for xrns2mod!

jowlsucks and mkstar26, glad to hear it! :D

Sportsmanship is key in all these. If someone bought Renoise it's likely that the same person will have had a lot of practice.

I'd play if I didn't have a mind to taking care of things at home and concentrating my energy into more long term things.

I think I used renoise for 3 years before I bought a license. I'm guessing it was 1.9 because when 3.0 dropped I was no longer able to download the latest version. You only get 1.0 worth of version updates. WTF Still though, it's my favorite music making app fo sho!

System requirements are here:
http://www.renoise.com/system-requirements

I use the last version of Renoise compatible with my computer, which is in the 2.7 range.

@Savestate: I have a workaround for rendering instruments to samples on my end. Simple: use Wiretap Pro. Sample recording made easier on my end. However, plugin instruments are probably not as good on my end anyways...

One day left! Have you downloaded Renoise yet?

rules: It will be bitpack based, and you can ONLY use the bitpack (a lot of instruments will be provided though)

No external plug-ins or instruments! No VSTs and for you Linux users, no Ladspa plugins either. Only internal DSP effects are allowed (there's a lot of em so don't worry.)

As of now it will be held at 23:59 EDT (3:59 GMT) so it can technically still be held on my birthday where I'm at (^;

Here's a go-to guide for pattern effects! http://files.renoise.com/manual/PatternEffects_ReferenceCard.pdf

Hope to see you there!

@Savestate: I'm actually out due to a different problem. I am transitioning to the Intel Mac because my G5 is currently dying due to kernel panics and freezing up the wazoo presumably due to a piece of hardware failing, and it will take me some time to get comfortable with the computer. I can technically jump right in with the latest version of Renoise, but I'd rather see what older software I have will still run first...

Slimeball, Renoise itself can load IT files and then save as XRNS.

I am interested in a Renoise battle!

I know I did dpc, and hopefully you and Daverd can join the next! If I were to reschedule a battle, which day would work best for everyone interested: a Monday, Saturday, or Thursday? These are the best days for me, and the battle would most likely be hosted 9:00pm EDT to 11:00pm EDT (given there's an admin available!)

Also, to add on to what Daverd said, Renoise WILL import XMs and ITs. If you choose to use this method (similarly to how I use the xrns2mod for s3xmodit battles because I'm too stubborn to learn MilkyTracker), I recommend you only use the module file as a base; once imported, add, configure, and fine tune effects and layout to take advantage of Renoise's powerful engine.
