To win the game, you must kill me, John Romero.

EDIT: All tunes will be rendered to MP3 for voting accessibility.

Chocolate doom sounds way better than vanilla doom! Is there a way to try out stuff if you don't have the game though? Are OpenDoom or similar stuff reliable/compatible?

I didn't see a way in doombuilder to import custom MIDI. Are there any tutorials for that and custom textures?

Well, for starters you'll want MIDI2MUS. See if you can export your midi with 140 MIDI divisions. Or something like that. I have some nasty hack to fix up + shove .mus files into WADs.

I think I'll write my own midi to mus converter, because it2mid uses a custom pitch wheel depth. Or maybe I'll just spew out .mus format stuff using copious amounts of Python.

There are tools to shove files into WADs. You'll want to store your .mus file in the WAD as "D_E1M1".

XWE and Slade are two good WAD browsers.
note that you don't really need to convert stuff to .MUS anymore if you don't wanna, Ultimate Doom supports .MID lumps anyway. but you might wanna consider it anyway if it doesn't loop your song correctly

MAKE SOME WADS

1. draw squiggly lines on paper
2. open up doom builder 2 and enter the squiggly lines to the editor
3. make a MIDI song
4. put the midi song in the wad as D_E1M1 with SLADE

MAKE SOME WADS

I've actually got a little idea for a map, but absolutely no experience with Doom Builder whatsoever. ._.

Plus, I can get jacked up only by tomorrow, and I'm not sure of that yet.

Bit random, but for the next one, could we clairfy whether or not custom music for wads needs to be an original composition for the map or an existing track used with permission? I had one I wanted to use but nobody 'round on IRC was sure if it was okay so I had to leave it out. D:

I did make sure to render the WAD as MP3, though. :D

I couldn't get my one room map with a player 1 start to load into chocolate doom. Anyways, I'd like to vote.

I'm at the command line in windows and I type -
chocolate-doom.exe -file dingle.wad
- and I get a pop-up stating I can't -file with the shareware version and I must register. First off, how is this legal? They didn't write Doom, they only ported it. Second, is there a different way to load the .wad's into chocolate doom?

The inability to load custom wads is a restriction from the original .EXE, and the registration message only translates to "buy Doom", not registering the port -- 'tis a good thing ports are reinforcing this. :P

Long story short, you'll need a full version, not the sharewareness. It's a game that's always worth a buy. :P
