The challenge was:
You download http://lmao.rotfl.at/upload/Str0be/Formats.zip
Then try to determine what format each file was originally.
These are just snippets of the original files, most or all of the headers are removed, and there is only a portion of the data left.
Tools needed: Your favorite hexeditor, or if you're masochistic, notepad.
Send your answers to strobeflux@gmail.com in a list like:
Form01 = .gif
Form02 = no freaking idea
...and include your botb nick.
Topic for the e-mail could be "File Format Challenge" so it's easy to spot.
Scoring
------------------------------
There is 1 point per one right answer generally.
Exception:
For Form07.bin you will gain 1 point if you get correct answer, and 1 point extra if you pick out what sub segment of the file this is.
Total points possible: 11
-------------------------------
I understand that this is not a challenge for everyone,
but i hope to get some participants, if I get 5 or more
people who tried seriously, there will be a 500 boon price
at the end of the week. (It ends on Sunday)
if there is a tie, there will be 250 boons for each winner.
Happy haxxorings!
Edit: This is medium challenge for people familiar with fileformats,
because i left some (but subtle in some cases) hints in the filedata
that could be used to determine the origins.
There are no totally random data in this particular challenge, nor
are there any very unknown formats.
