Hey jags (Pittsburgh for 'folks'),
Beautiful pixel scenery, a whole slew of bgm earworms, and, let's be honest, probably a random section of nudity and explicit content — such seems the common threads of a PC-98 visual novel. Now is your chance to imagine and compose for the same concept via the purview of BotB...though keep the nudity and naughty thoughts to yourself, if you would.
This Winter Chip project is a follow-up to our BotB Sgen Staff Roll Collaboration, imagined as a staff roll medley track for a Sega Genesis platformer based around our humble digital abode. For further reference, you may find the thread about it here and listen to the entry here.
If you are so inclined, you may pick one of the "visual novel moments" listed below to compose for and I will go through the laborious task of slapping all of them together into one track.
Not interested? No worries — we'll see you at the finish line (hopefully). Alas, for those still considering their participation, there is a set of ground rules I ask you to review to make sure this project is for you, many of which were crucial learning points from my previous go. If you'd like, read on!
/ * / ESSENTIAL RULES / * /
1. We will use Bamboo Tracker. It exports .s98 files directly and will help us avoid any .vgm > .s98 slip-ups, so we're sticking to it.
2. You will be provided a template, from which you *must* use the instruments already in the module. I'll make the list expansive, but the absolutely hardest part of the Sgen collaboration was saving, transporting, and realigning everyone's submission to include all the patches and samples people used. I am open to folks sending a few patches they really want to make sure are available.
3. This isn't a medley, but it's still imagined as bgm, so keep your tracks under the two-minute threshold to help with both space conservation and a timely final product. Your track should also loop unless you're imagining the moment as a "one-off."
4. You have to write in 64 lines and use grooves OR program your work with 0D00 to end at whatever length you'd like. Please don't extend the module. Again, this element was a huge undertaking last time and can be avoided with a little preemption.
/ * / COMMON QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS / * /
"How do I reserve a spot?"
Post here with the scene you'd like to score. I'll add you to the list as it gets updated. Consider the time stamp of the posting as the final demarcation in case multiple people request an option.
"I was already working on a Winter Chip PC-98 entry, so I'm not sure I want to give that up."
No worries! But remember that, as a collaborator, you can still submit your own track in addition to contributing on this one.
"I want to join, but I suck (at _) and I don't want to ruin it."
I don't give a shit. Community is more important to me and the spirit of this project than perfection or excellence. I certainly don't want folks to half-ass it, but the inexperienced, the unsure, and anybody else with reservations are still welcome to join.
"How else should I connect to work on this project?"
Discord is easiest and email is fine, too.
"When's it due?"
I *NEED* your module, ready to roll, with a week to go. No praying for exstonsions — I really need the time to organize. That way I can send out a version to make sure everything sounds good, deal with mixing issues, and whatever else pops up.
/ * / GAME MOMENTS TO COMPOSE / * /
I have to max out our contributions at eight. Any more would be the death of me. Imagine we're looking at the OST on vgmrips and these are the titles:
0. Title Screen — haberchuck
1. Lurking — kilo
2. RENDER AND SUBMIT! (Two-Minute Warning) — Kaytse
3. Spirit of Hearts (Positive Aura Shift) — dami
5. Boonloss — Bingies24
6. Decree of the Sluts — syntheticgoddess
7. Goldbat — Dippy
8. Level Up! — fortuna0800
4. Lord of Skulls (Critical Aura Shift)
SHALL ANYONE TAKE ON THE ROLE AS LORD OF SKULLS?!
*Sigh* OK, let's see how this thing goes!
***Whitesnake's 'Here I Go Again' plays in background.***
