This would be useful to use custom samples with Furious Advance Tracker!

With FAT, song data are organized this way:
  • samples are stored in the .gba ROM, with the tracker itself
  • anything else is stored in a save file (.sav)

As it is now, you can only submit .sav files, meant to be created with the example ROM. This ROM already contains a bunch of samples but this means you can't use any additional samples in your songs. To do so, you need to recompile an empty FAT ROM with your custom samples.

So .zip entries would be allowed only if you used FAT with a custom set of samples (unless we find out it could be useful with another tool). You would have to include both your .sav file and the .gba ROM used to make the song.

does the tracker's license support this?

for instance, you can't do this with LSDJ because its license prevents you from redistributing the ROM; but you *can* do this with NTRQ as long as you include its license.txt file alongside the ROM in your submission

so just want to be sure we can technically do this (even if it'd be unlikely to ever really matter)...

Oh I didn't think about this!

I checked the GitHub repo
, it seems FAT doesn't actually have a license. There is no license file and I found nothing neither in the documentation nor on the website
. I'm not an expert regarding this, but I guess we can't assume we can redistribute the ROM in entries, right?

Do I open an issue on GitHub to ask the devs for the permission?

cool, i'd say we're good then - it's clearly abandonware at this point anyway. thanks for looking into it!

I was already doing that

Use a stronger egg

Put water in it

Have a baby, on land, in an egg

Water is in the egg.

Baby, in the egg, in the water, in the egg.

Works for me!

Bye bye ocean...

And now everything's huge

In all seriousness though, this is already possible with maxmod. you just need to know a bit of basic programming, though my multi-song entry didn't do this to allow smoother transitions between tracks
