/*/*/ Update: all spots reserved this time. /*/*/
***For the sake of ensuring the project goes smoothly (enough) the first run through, I don't plan to add any more themes at the moment. If all goes well, however, I'd love to organize similar collabs in the future.***
Hey folks,
Remember the 90s (maybe)? What a time to be alive: good cartoons, third-wave ska, and a surplus of attitude-laden, character-driven platformers for the Sega Genesis. The first game I ever had was Sonic 2, and I still recall the game's staff roll bouncing between the different stage themes with some (often hurried lol) drum transitions as the credits zoomed by.
If we were still steeped in this obsession with characters built of caffeine and "-'tude," how would Sega not go nuts for an on-screen persona named puke?
It's at this point I cordially invite you to participate in the BotB Sgen Credit Roll Collab for Summer Chip XIV. Using Furnace, the goal is to come up with a section of music lasting 30 to 45 seconds made for one of the stages you'll see listed below. The nice part is, you don't need an intro, outro, middle 8, or anything like that; you can just get right into the heart of your tune. At the end, I'll synthesize them into one whole .vgm file to submit!
/ * / IF STILL INTERESTED, CONTINUE READING. / * /
You can reserve one of the eight stages below. I'll take whichever stage is left at the end, excepting that we don't fill all eight, in which case we'll make do with what we've got.
Stage Themes (updated as people call them; please check the thread first, though, to be sure!):
x. Welcome to Online Song Game! (haberchuck)
1. n00b Training Zone (retrokid104)
2. Parasite Containment Zone (Bingies24)
3. Chip Factory Zone (Raiku)
4. Pants City Zone (kilowatt)
5. Self-Like Spa Zone (Tex)
6. Ancient Lyceum Crypt Zone (damifortune)
7. battleofthebits.org Online Gambling Zone (cabbage drop)
8. Boon Bank Fortress Zone (SRB2er)
Guidelines:
*You can go hog wild with the style of the song; the names are only to give you some direction.
*Use Furnace or, if need be, Deflemask. It just makes bringing the parts together way easier.
*Avoid ext. channel 3 or the DualPCM setup: even in subsongs, the chips don't change and using either can drastically affect others' work, not to mention that DualPCM > .vgm incurs a massive file size increase that we may not be able to overcome to submit.
*Grooves (set in grooves menu and then use 09xx to pick which you're using) and tempo commands (F0xx for tick rate; FDxx/FExx for virtual tempo) are our friend, so let's use them! Luckily, I think subsongs *can* help in this area.
*I don't want to make the expectations too restrictive, so you're welcome to use samples and patches as you please. That said, it'd be cool to manage a broadly cohesive sound, so I've gathered some non-Sonic Sega drum samples here, and I added a few patches I like using in the process. If you join, I'd be happy to include a handful of patches you really like (your own or found elsewhere) to help build up our cache of shared instrumentation. You'll just have to dm me. That said, don't sweat it either!
*Please send my way by July 23!
*Write on my wall or find me on Discord (@pgh_chuck) if you need anything.
Let's get going! *does that Rodney Dangerfield nervously adjusting tie thing*
