I had an idea while messing around with putting way too much effort into a presentation for a class; what if this was a format? Bitpacks could be a collection of files to work with, or a topic or set of topics to research and present on in under an hour. It'd be stupid, sure, but that's honestly part of the fun in my eyes. The animations are surprisingly robust, you can insert audio and video material, and I think it'd be a fun homage to the powerpoint games of yesteryear.

Submissions would consist of an exported .pptx file, which should re-import identically.

I am very much in favor of this format. It might be cool to see what people could make out of this. The thing is what points would you get? Presentist? Just Graphicsist?

Yeah it does require an account, there is LibreOffice
though! Open tools with equivalent / more features than gslides.

cbz is an excellent slide format! ;) ( who uses atril or evince for displaying them knows it perfectly - but its very sad that most slide editors doesnt support it yet) - pdf is a great format for that as well

LibreOffice? Interesting! I hadn't heard of it. That might be a better option.

There's also a browser-based emulation of a Mac Plus with Hypercard
You can save and download the disk image of the project files from the page :-)

relying on other peoples online-services is never a good idea for a format because if the service changes(likely for google) or goes offline(unlikely for google), old entries will not load right, or at all.
an open and/or free software that can be used locally seems a lot better for a format choice.

.... do people rly dont know what libreoffice is anymore? is selling ur soul to google for everything the normal thing now? i dislike 2022 so much lmao

can't wait for someone to implement a sequencer in a presentation tool as a result of this becoming a format

Kleeder, to be fair, I only use Google Slides for school. I didn't realize there were options.

I agree that placing power and relying on google services for a format sucks for many reasons, but that's not really what we would be doing because the pptx format is not Google owned, or Google defined, it is Microsoft's. Meaning that if google has no incentive to change the format of oldentries (as it is trying to compete with PPt proper) and that LibreOffice and PowerPoint would be able to open old entries if it still decided to do so for some weirdass reason.
What's more Google Slides is basically unmatched for concurrent editing (That means very easy collabs) and accessibility. Both PPt and Impress are heavy duty software, but you can open Slides on any device.

If the format is pptx anyway instead of "google slides" or "libreoffice" then people can choose the tool they want.
There would need to be some research about which features (if any ) are not shared between the different softwares though. AFAIK unlike with excel/google sheets fonts are the only concern.

Edit : I forgot about actual Macros. The way to do em is different depending on the soft... I guess if people wanted to get really freaky and use em they would have to specify which app they used. But tbh in this realm even in the same soft there can be real trouble depending on which version you use.

We had the discussion about an "office" format before.
Basically, the Microsoft office tools are not free, and opening files like word, pp and Excel no matter if u do it in paid or free tools is most likely do be different depending on OS and Version of Software.
The common result of that Discussion used to be that having slides or word or spreadsheet formats wld be too tedious and not suited for botb because theres not a single source for checking out and voting on entries

i think this format request is probably not well suited to botb. yes, you can do some cool
stuff
with powerpoint and similar software but it doesn't add anything new and it creates problems in terms of availability and file formats. it is quite similar to doing a html/css in a WYSIWYG editor and you can probably export something like google slides or powerpoint into html. even with html/css you have to end up writing jokes or silly stuff to make your entry interesting, at least you can do interesting stuff with html5 and css3 animations but i don't want to go on about html/css here heh....

also pdf is probably the most universal presentations format but it's not all too interesting (to me)
