What do you think about a web page one may create, perhaps using HTML in a form or firki markup, one may access at on an URL like https://battleofthebits.com/~puke7 and https://battleofthebits.com/~Baron+Knoxburry? It would be neat for me to watch at web pages from other BotBrs, as it was for me to in the kindly offered to BotBrs, then web site named as botb.club, by R3M

i don't see the point given how easy it is to make your own github-pages at this point for free, and it also opens doors to potential abuse, if it's open to everyone on botb

A full page for BotBrs to share things meant to be shared within Battle of the Bits community rather than publicly elsewhere; as #botb IRC or #battle_of_the_bits Discord log quotes, in-depth Battle of the Bits collaboration information and contact, weird design and paradigms fitting to Battle of the Bits, with moving ASCII penises and images, sharing about how they came to find Battle of the Bits, Battle of the Bits goals checkboxes, in-jokes and anecdotes, and other information meant to be shared within, suiting better than otherwise sharing on a profile bio!

One may watch at a backup of botb.club, I am feeling inspired to ask about this feature request by, and BotBr web pages in, via the web page that the next hyperlink leads to:

something like that could, once again, be achieved by a github pages thingy.

like, make a github account named botbclub or something, create a botbclub.github.io repository for the main site, and then make another gh-pages repository for each botbr that only whoever runs it and the botbr in question can commit to.

you can even make all these repositories private (i think) so it can still be tied to botb for the most part, and separate repositories, if they use gh-pages, are accessible and interlinked anyway (say you have a repository named "vilxdryad", you can access it @ botbclub.github.io/vilxdryad just like that).

as much as i liked botb club when it was a thing, i don't think puke has the time and resources to make such a niche feature request work, and if more than one person wants this to be a thing i think the most we can do, out of respect for puke's time, is to mobilize ourselves to use things that already exist (or build our own solutions if feasible (but in this case it isn't)).

maybe i'm wrong and it's actually super simple to implement, and in which case the only thing i ask is to restrict features to higher botbr levels (create your own page at level 8, ability to upload images at level 18, total space increments for each level you gain so the longer you're on the site the more space you can use for your dingle, etc. not suggesting these exact things, but just as an idea of what i mean) to prevent abuse (ppl signing up to just spam the site with stuff) and to make leveling up mean something more i suppose.

i'm not against the idea, just to be clear, i do think if it happens it'd be cool, but my point moreso is we can make it happen ourselves without needing puke to spend time and resources on yet another feature, man's busy as is.

it's true that you can absolutely do this on your own using any number of resources, but i think that's kind of missing the point. features like this usually exist as a way of deepening interaction with the website, rather than as a clinical service to allow people to make whatever page they want. not saying this is necessarily a great idea for a botb feature, but I get it. i think it makes more sense if you grew up with neopets

my concern would be if the risks outweigh the rewards of a system like this... but i'm pretty jaded after the directions social media went in the last 10 years

i do think some botbrs, myself included, would enjoy having a place to post up resources & other content, but due to the high potential for abuse of the system (inappropriate, offensive, illegal, etc. content) it would have to be carefully moderated. and the admins are a group of volunteers so that's potentially a lot extra to ask of them. (besides: i can, and will, put up those resources somewhere else anyway)

Mel's right that potential page features ought to be unlocked by levelups, that would certainly help keep things under control out the gate

you can already get pretty creative with firki if you want to use your bio as a static site of sorts.

if you want to do interactive javascript stuff though then something like neocities is a pretty good option

allowing interactive elements from users on the botb domain is basically asking for unprivileged-to-many stored xss

would be quite easy to make any user that visits your page automatically change their bio to some sort of self-replicating bio with vulgar or whatever content, or deleting all their comments ever posted. bad stuff

i do think that could be mitigated if it's sandboxed/sanitized somehow, also would be with a level barrier to it, but it's still asking staff on botb to moderate these on top of everything else, not to mention what i brought up earlier.

i'd be in favour of botb.club being brought back by someone else in the community, but again, that would be a burden on someone else's resources and time, just to make an unpopular thing work. i mean botb.club's fate is sad and all, but there's a reason it kinda just fizzled out... i'd lose interest in it after a month at best i think, and i imagine that's true for a lot of other people who have a job and other commitments to life that already barely have time to be on botb

just my 2 cents here, but the time & resources it'd take to implement a botb.club thing into botb is better spent elsewhere on botb, like (for example) adding more xhb times (3hb could be an interesting one) or the ability to create a 24 hour battle at the cost of a Lot of boons, kinda like a mini major of sorts (not actual suggestions, but ideas that i think would be far far far more interesting than botb club)

if anything, i would actually think having a hosting service would be nice for html entries, as those with a lot of pages/css/js do require to be downloaded. it'd be nice if there was a service like this for hosting these bigger entries, taking out the middleman of downloading them and displaying them in the browser themselves while still on the battle of the bits site. botb.club doesn't need to come back doe, i mean neocities is just fine and having a hosting service would just be more work on puke i'd imagine but i mean u do u
