i was thinking about the BADGE LEADERBOARD today. i had the idea of a recurring SEASON on battle of the bits to draw more attention to xhbs!
the idea is like this: every "season" (meaning a predetermined length of time, not necessarily referring to temperate seasons like winter and spring), there would be a tally of badge-progress-earning entries in any given xhb category. this would contribute to badges as they currently exist and ALSO: towards a "seasonal badge" .
much like how medaled badges work right now, each user above a certain threshold (28, 56, 98) would earn a medaled badge for that season. at the end of the season, the badge would be placed on the botbr's profile, in a similar way that major battle medals are ! this would give users capped out on a certain category more of a reason to participate in battle categories that they've already earned the golden badge for, and also give more of a general incentive to continuously participate in xhbs/.
some obvious points of attention that owuld need to be decided for this:
1. season length. a season shouldnt be too long as to punish people for being inactive for an extended period of time, but not too short as to rush botbrs to earn their badges.
2. badge-earning thresholds. should they be as high as all-time badges? maybe they should be lower and to more reasonably adjust for the length of the season.
doc also pointed out that if xhb seasons were of fixed-length, you could feasibly calculate the participation values for all "past seasons" on battle of the bits before the implementation of this feature, so the key players in the earlier days of botb could retroactively receive a reward for high-participation back then as well. let me know what u think :]
