So I've converted a few songs from .xm format into some .sng and I get the basics but I'm still confused on some things. It seems like the portamento up (1xy), portamento down (2xy), and toneportamento (3xy) don't quite work the same as in more modern trackers I'm used to like sunvox. So for example the 1xy command I would do 101 to point to speed table at row 01. It says it's a 16bit value in the speed table so does that mean it uses the whole amount of values from 0000 to FFFF or does it work more like the vibrato command and use a format of xxyy from the speed table?

Ok and does the tempo mess with any of those 1xy, 2xy, or 3xy commands? For instance if I would have a speed 6 vs speed 3 would the speed table values act differently besides just running faster in time with the tempo?

nope. commands like portamento change the frequency every tick, regardless of the tempo

That's what I thought but since I'm not a goat tracker expert I thought I'd just make sure.

no prob. at least you're actually making an effort to learn it instead of complaining about how it's not like famitracker like most do

Actually I don't know famitracker and well I just love the C64 pwm sound. Also for some reason famitracker runs a bit odd under wine on linux, there's a delay between testing the note on the keyboard and when you hear it. Does this chart work for goat tracker as well http://famitracker.com/wiki/index.php?title=Common_tempo_values ?

yep, NTSC is 60Hz and PAL is 50Hz no matter what system you're on. it will only not work if you're making a multispeed tune. also keep in mind that only 1- or 2-entry long tempo chains are feasible in gt

By multispeed you mean changing the program's setting from the default 1x speed to 2x or higher correct? Yeah for the values it would be E01 and then row 01 would be 06 04 or something and Fxy example would be like F04 right? I really do appreciate the help :) It seems like not many use this program :/

Awesome. Can you run a vibrato command after any of the portamento commands?

goattracker was designed so exported songs take as little cpu time on the c64 to play as possible, so i don't think they can be done at the same time. it should be possible to cancel a portamento and start a vibrato after it though
