I can write a decent verse, maybe even a chorus, but I can't seem to make the chorus stick out and explode and still make sense with the verse.

I don't know if I'm using too few instruments or that it's the lack of changing the instrument when the chorus come, like maybe going for brass instead of guitar or what it is. But I haven't figured it out.

Any input and insight would be appreciated.

Thanks

i may not be the one who can tell anything about musical theory since i know literally nothing about it BUT if something does not sounds as right as it should; you could blame the samples/instruments = ) you simply can not make a song sound good using samples/instruments that can not stand alone, i would recommend you to try around that.

personally when i use gorgeous top quality samples my inspiration and composing skills rose too~ =' D

Making a good chorus 'ring' just takes a bit of time.
Focus on your rhythm and keep the drums/percussion going, but to start just make everything simple. Personally when I use trackers, I start with the basics and build from there. Don't worry too much if something doesn't feel right, it can always be changed. Mute something (momentarily) if it keeps you from progressing on what you want to work on or how you want it to sound.

A good grasp of understanding chord progressions will help with creating songs that naturally pull the listener in. Try to feel where the song leads you and work with what you're good at. Practice what you're not good at. All of this stuff takes time to learn and improve.

Also what can help is thinking about why you like certain songs and types of music. What makes them great to you? Try emulating certain things, find out what works and what doesn't.

Hope this helps. :)
