I am spitballing here. But I loved the oldschool concept of swapping and co-op. How about we base a battle on a variation of that concept?

Each contender puts up one tune they want another BotB'r to remix/remake, and logic follows each contender has to choose a BotB'rs tune to remix/remake. The thing here is that you can use any tunage, as long as it is yours.

And this time, non-released stuff is most welcome and, I suggest winner-tunes should not be used due to the varying skill of us musicians ;)

What is welcome is released stuff, non released stuff, low score battle tunes.

Now, the question is, should a tune picked be locked to the user that decided to work on it, or should everyone have
free access to all tunes even if that means some will get remixed multiple times and some none?

To put it plainly, one tune offered, first one first serve, no-one else can choose it?

Also formats are always debatable. Many formats have high interchangeability while some have basically none. So Exotic formats woule be less likely to get picked.

I would personally put up one of my MOD/XM's, or possibly FTM's since FamiTracker is getting more and more attention among chiptune artists.

If anyone thinks this is an idea worth exploring, then all details can be hashed out. :)

Cheers d00ds!

I'm going to do my best to answer this concept. Remix/remake of BotB tunes can be fun and a healthy exercise. It mostly reminds me of a very old idea I had for BotB --

A long, long time ago the soulseek community put out a compilation based on the concept of exquisite corpse
. Basically, the first artist started off with a minute or less of music, and then the last 10 seconds or so were passed to the next person to springbaord from and add another minute of music, passing their last 10 seconds or so to the next artist and so on for 60 tracks. This resulted in an hour of interesting progressions. Obviously this concept is grounded in drawing, but, as stated, could be used for allgear or s3xmodit or any tracker or any visual format. The only way for this to uphold the 'battle' concept is for each 'chunk' to get a passing score of 20 or higher, I guess, before the next person took over.

I like your general concept, but it is an abstract jump from what we have now. The Decadent Decade battle is still lacking some of the features I had envisioned for it almost a year ago. I don't really have the time and energy to think about this stuff too much unless the kickstarter (which, I promise, will be launching within 3 weeks) meets its goal.

Thanks for such a comprehensive answer Puke :)

I fully understand all your objections and problems with this.

Another idea is to just make a short peice of music and let others base their tune off of that.

Now, I know I have not got the green light, it was just an idea. But this battle would be hosted by me and possibly Raphael Goulart whom is a persoal freind of mine.

But okay Puke, I'll shelve this and possibly put it forth in a more ordered manner with complete rules when it would fit...

Cheers dude! And thank you for BotB. It's small, underground, but DAMN is it a great site, one of the last Demoscene sites around that tries to be as purist, retro and oldschool as possible.

Cheers again, and good luck in all your future edevours. :)

If you know how to track in .it, there's always the monsqaz swap project!

Although, it's not very much like a battle, just a thing where you add onto each other's song, but I feel like the concept is similar in ways.
