same table
, sorted along key, columns reordered according to scale degree in the relative major, rare chords recoloured with grey text over white background to make the whole table less confusing

same table
, but using parallel major instead of relative major

Haha. this table is kinda cool actually.

Although, A# Major? D# Major?! Oh nononononooo.

Tbh the table is p. confusing as it sorta assumes that the entry is not only tonal (tho I haven't listened to any of the entries) , but the key sig remains *contant* throughout (I is of course redefined whenever we fully modulate)...

...unless.... wait Keffie are the % numbers the "% of pitches" or "% of chord types? (C corresponding to the tonic, C# to flat-II/ii, D to II/ii etc etc)".

% of pitches would definitely make a lot of sense

This seems neat, but would any non-doctors in the house be kind enough to provide a layman's explanation for this potential future patient? O:

if the algorithm is explained to the patient, the hospital will be out of business as they will have no way to make profit seeing as people will be curing themselves instead!~~~~~~~~

don't tell me this is measured by summing the spectral power in specific frequencies spaced octaves apart

Whelp. Apologies for still-pushing the same question (i.e. "wtf is this"), but the more I see this thread, the more worrisome it gets. D:

I'm a self-taught musician-person who has very little formal training (e.g. highschool-band-level), so I don't know jack about formal music theory. As such, terms like "base chords" and "tonal" fall on deaf ears... semi-pun not originally intended. tl;dr, I'm curious if someone can answer:

1) What is the OP stating, in layman's terms?
2) Why should I (as a musician) care?
3) If my tune falls under the "unhealthy" category, how do I go about fixing it?

I'm maybe just being a dunce here -- since some folks do seem to understand (and obv. keffie wouldn't have put in the effort if it's meaningless :P ), so it's quite possible I just don't have the vocabulary. I trust I'm not the only one, though, hence the ask.

@Xaser:

From my understanding the table just seems to show the.. variance (?) of chords in each entry (so, like, how often different types of chords (or notes, I'm still not sure) are used)).

Should you care? ...well, if you don't think it's a problem, then probably not. Personally Xaser (from what I've heard of your music so far), you're doing just fine on the chord front. If you feel like you do wanna make your songs a bit more varied in terms of chord progressions, then doing stuff like playing around with different note combinations and stuff in yr tracker, toying with dissonance more - seeing if you can work out some new ways of voicing chords. But yeah, if you get an unhealthy rating it's no cause for concern really (especially as this is essentially a program running some code).

I think musical analysis has always put a very heavy emphasis on harmony... perhaps too heavy if you ask me. While there may be certain "do's" and "Don'ts" with regard to harmony it can be easily made up for in other areas. I like plenty of songs that use, like, 2 or 3 chords, or even less. But yeah, using lots of chords is not the be-all and end-all in music.
