It's problematic if they end up voting against what makes sense, though. If folks start going "well, I like 'x' but I'm going to dock points because of [criteria]", then it better damn well be an actual rule- or theme-break.

(i just don't like it in mixbattle_art! but yes it should be allowed (especially since the lyceum says so (and i wrote the lyceum article)))

chipart in mixbattle_art (incoming) is like people using the qchan engine in beeper (0.0000000001% pulse waves), it's allowed but it's (imo) the worst choice you could pick out of all the options you have ; ))))))))))))))))))))))))))

(of course, the same principle applies, if you manage to make really impressive pixel art still, maybe i will upvote it...or creatively combine pixel art w/ another medium!)

To be frank, I'm very confused on where this discussion has gone (esp. on IRC), so lemme clear up my thoughts in general:

Process A: entry does 'x' -> likes entry less because it does 'x' -> vote less
Process B: entry does 'x' -> likes entry the same but thinks 'x' shouldn't be there -> vote less

A is normal, B is what folks do if the entry breaks rules. The trouble is that sometimes people will turn A into B by forcing themselves to dislike something even though they normally wouldn't Das bad. D:

it's not that i predetermined i didn't like pixel art in mixbattle_art, it was more like i saw it and noticed i didn't like it. i saw that this was consistent and observed that it is a general thing i don't like (not sure how this applies to other ppl tho)

(this is kind of like people downvoting for hardpans or gay chip pop or some other aspect they don't like)

No, that'd be straight-up A -- that's an example where A can become problematic. If it distorts one's view so much that rating/voting makes a drastic shift to the bad side, then yeah, one's votes may not be fair anymore*.

[*This is an unfortunate case in general since it happens a lot IRL: terrible people make awesome things, yet should we like the thing? TBH i'd rather not open this can of worms since there's no right answer that I can think of and I don't think it's relevant to Spring Tracks since I -think- we aren't harboring any total nutters, sociopathy aside. :P ]

Back on topic, golgi's latest sentiments put the overactive Xaserbrain at rest; if it's indeed a "I just don't like [y]," then all is well. I revived the entry I had under construction for Spring Tracks ]|[. Time will tell if the track will actually be submitted since I'm still dealing with college work...

I started thinking about this track once Winter Chip X had concluded. I also jumped the gun on another entry for a future Summer Chip by a few months, and it's already complete!

It seems like we've had enough time for voting, but a lot of entries still only have 12 votes while all the other majors I've been in have had at least 20 per entry...

I don't know if people need more time because something like finals is getting in the way or if there just isn't much motivation to vote.

That being said, I haven't voted on more than like 20 entries myself so I should get on that. I'm kind of ambivalent about a voting extension.
