Every winter, oosanshouuo (giant salamanders) gather in big piles in the river. Biologists disagree on the reason, some say it's just for warmth, others think it's an elaborate mating ritual. In any case, the locals call it the "Uouo Tree" and bring them offerings of fish for good luck.
