sometimes closing the book and moving on to the next piece is the right call, sounds like this was quite a journey!
Lmao im so nervous posting this, i just couldnt hear the final version in the end because I would NOT stop nitpicking and overwhelming myself to make it perfect. Use your headphones or I will self-combust (or dont.. fine...)

Gonna explain a bit behind this song, which I started a month ago, because I feel this is warranted.
It's honestly baffling how the whole songmaking process was. I initially took it as a small challenge, emulating one of my favourite artists. Eventually I thought it would be fun to make a water level theme track. I added a few things here and there, it wasn't so serious.
But then one portion took off, and I thought, "damn that kinda sounds good, wonder if I can extend that?"
So day in and day out, I worked on the track EVERYWHERE: in the coffee shop, the library and public transit (bus, train, Toronto's stupid street cars). I messaged different artists to get their advice on sound design. I even started analyzing and listening to my usual music playlists and noting when they'd pan to take inspiration from so I can immediately implement it in the song. I searched up tutorials on youtube for hours which is funny because I would never be so deeply involved with making music.
What was a 3 minute track turned into FIFTEEN MINUTES. There are 5 parts with at least 20 different melodies.
Which is why it was so DISAPPOINTING when the track didn't sound like the song I wanted it to be. I wanted to justify the effort that went into the song by making it sound perfect but I'm....just not...satisfied with it....
I never knew how important mixing, mastering and overall sound design is to the song production! And I don't know music theory at all so it a lot was just trial and error, and me hitting my head against the wall.
I kept rearranging, adding more unnessary melodies and synths, taking off my most favourite instruments just so I can perfect it until it became a distorted form of what it was.
So I went back to my original drafts and tried staying true to the main parts that I genuinely enjoyed even if they sounded terrible during a playback. I've chose to submit this one because I was so proud of myself making this melody (#17) and this part was the reason I started working so hard in the first place.
In the end, I realized that at my current stage, I'd never reach the sound that I want... so I decided to let this track go, instead of overwhelming myself with expectations.
Special thanks to kalowe and crazygoji for listening to my stuff and giving me feedback and thank you botb for giving me a reason to work on this song and honestly allowing myself to learn so MUCH about music by hosting this competition.
