Another one-take, no-edit, not-really-stereo synth jam!
These always turn out longer than I want/expect them to...
If you don't like repetitive basslines, maybe this isn't for you.

Now for my defense on why this is Wildchip:

I was going for a SID kinda sound. This means I have used 2 melodic voices and one percussive one. The percussive sounds are either pink noise based or in case of the bassdrum sine wave based. I have routed the melodic voices through a single lowpass filter without resonance. Both are pulse waves, one of them with PWM. I forgot to route the drum sounds through it tbh.
So all in all I think I got the most important limitations down.

Here some more info on how things are set up:

The bassline notes and the drumsounds are correlated because they are created by a single sequencer. Only later in the recording I remembered that I had buttons OR'd to the trigger ins of my drums. You can listen to me consistently missing the beat.
The Hihat sound is special. It is not triggered by the sequencer directly, but instead by a PLL that tries and fails to match the clock of the sequencer.
While the bassline is constant, the other melodic voice had a switch to either produce mostly random notes or fast arpeggios.
Lastly I should mention that I added some extra nonsense at the start and finish of the track radio music style.

Sometimes you can hear my note quantizer going erratic. This is of course totally intentional and not due to bad design. It really enhances the sound!

This is unique! I love tracks that use 8-bit sound effects throughout, great one!

Noice tune but I was getting some sort of suuuper strange phasing through my speaker set up. Other than the crazy strange sound spectrum stuff, this sounded like a solid old school track! I can definitely hear the SID vibe.

I'm glad you guys enjoy it :3
Even the Baron himself, what an honour! I wish we could somehow get together sometime and cross-patch our modulars :D

th4 D34D:
The phasing you describe is my "not really stereo" experiment. One sound channel is almost an exact inversion of the other.
I find it interesting, because with some setups it's VERY noticeable and with others not at all. I can't say I really got behind why this happens. It was just an experiment, I probably won't do it again ^^

I have plans to get a proper (tho small) mixing desk soon, so I have true stereo with pan-per-channel.

I figured it had something to do with that, and now I understand! Well it is certainly an interesting effect, but it kind of hurts my head for some reason XD Looking forward to hearing your tracks in "is really stereo" haha.

oh yeah the old inverse on channel trick

i learned a long time ago about the dangers of that by using "surround sound" in impulse tracker -- I was playing back a track of mine on a friends stereo and it was missing half the instruments until I found a mono button that was on

so if you're ever live using this trick and the sound guy doesn't completely pan your channels that phase cancellation would occur

here's a video i did about trying to create stereo expansion using different compression settings on each channel --

some people think it sounds cool, others think it sounds dumb

i'm in austin, tx if you ever wanna jam modulars!! :D

I think it's hilarious that this scored 64th place. Fits well :D

Xyz:
What are you trying to tell us? ^^

€dit:
I thought for sure this is 64th place, now visiting this again I see there are not even 64 entries. Wat D:

Reddit:
WAT! Now it's 80 entries and 64th again
