interesting and cool approach!
alternatively, Ambient Jam 1.1
we recorded this live through discord streaming ! latency and all...
amelia played the piano, and i played the guitar and controlled all the synths with a midi controller with 8 midi CC knobs. this improvisation was actually the first take we did with this specific instrumentation!
playing and recording through discord is an interesting process. the web latency pushed us in very specific directions compositionally. for one, the instrumentation took a while to get right. we did a couple takes of this track with the both of us playing piano over the synths, but found the quick chord changes in the second half more or less impossible to consolidate with the latency. when i tried switching to guitar, things sounded immediately more cohesive.
it also pushed us in specific directions from a harmonic angle. through several jam sessions, we gravitated towards diatonic progressions contrasted with jazzy pedal point modulations. these both kept us close to the same harmonic core, while still allowing for some fun experimentation. youll hear both of these in this composition!.
also rip the .mp3 quality on this , its a bit of a longboy so 160kbps will have to do
EDIT: here's the video we made for this! it was part of the infloresce livestream a couple weeks ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7JjOKMxY-I
