I started this hack a week ago. Spent 2 days on the overworld and then did around 5 levels per day.
Custom Music was all done on the last day.

This hack features 26 unique levels with a total of 33 exits. You can find 5 Yoshi Coins in every level. There's no yoshi in this hack, but there's one hidden feather - I'm not sure if it's worth it to got for that one though...

Your goal is to find all four switch palaces, then find the secret path to the top north of the map and beat the final level.

There are some optional levels, depending on which route you choose. But I promise, it's worth it to play them all anyway c:

I didn't replace every music track. Especially the classic Overworld Theme is way too good. I wouldn't be able to make something even half as catchy. And what's SMW without the classic leitmotif anyway.
But I added some new music for Underwater, Forest, Desert, Swamplands and Castle.

Special Thanks to mioh for creating two custom gfx (a giant cement block and a cool dino skeleton) :D

I had so much fun creating this! I have been playing around with LunarMagic since 2010 but never actually sat down and made more than some level doodlings. This is my first ever full game hack and I learned so many new things along the way! Not sure if I will ever create another SMW Hack of this size, but at least I know how to do it now :D

And the final disclaimer: I tested every level several times and gave the whole thing a final playthrough at the end. But I am just one sleep deprived person, so it's very possible that there are some little bugs, gaps you can't get out of anymore and weird enemy spawning/despawning in some places.

not sure why you glitched through the wall in giant lake 1. there's a p switch in a block earlier in the level.

a choice, secret exit is a lot easier after you enabled the yellow switch. but yes I agree vine jumps with items can be tricky x)

Did a full blind playthrough of Nytrigis Adventures:

I think I discovered every level, but Kleeder will be the judge of that.

A really cool rom hack btw! I enjoyed the majority of the gameplay a lot!
A few possibly spoilers as I talk about my time playing it.

The original music was an absolute treat, already told you how much I love the forest theme, but all the original music is stellar! From the cheeky scar-like castle theme, to the aquatic ambiance ocean, all the way to the groovy desert, and the one-time melancholic ballad of the Utaio swamps (respect you only using it in one level! Only a pity maybe that it's a relatively short stage). The Mountain Cave doors were also very cool, in how every room added to the single melody.

Some little touch ups with a few original graphics. Small but nice to see!

Rarely felt like the game was asking too much from me. I do think the alt route in "A Choice" is harder than it need be for a required route - pixel perfect muncher jump (if you don't want to take damage) and then making that vine jump with no second chance to grab the key should it fall offscreen. But it's not impossible. Endless Ice Caves took me the most time to beat, and it's probably the marmite of your game, but as challenges go, it's location at the tail end of the game is the right place. I think beating either paths should've definitely saved your game though.

Besides that, fun platforming challenges throughout. No vertical levels sadly, but the fact that I enjoyed playing your stages is an important aspect to me. I like the desert and some of the outside ghostly areas for how they fit the Mario World aesthetic, while not looking like any of the levels from the base game. I would consider maybe expanding your use of custom palettes, as s level like Moroglia Plains 1 feels maybe close to Donut Plains 1, with shared enemies, backgrounds and palettes. But I also get the impression that you made some of your first levels at about the same time as when you began the major. It's not a deal breaker regardless, just trying to offer points that may aid future lunar entries.

I love the open world! One of my favourite parts of this entire hack is it's mostly non linear design. I hope others decide to play through the hack blind, because it'll be interesting seeing the different paths people take. The map is very cool. Utaio's submap could've benefited from some minor palette touch ups, but I like what it's going for.

The Dragon coins were a fun in game challenge too.
Overall, I think I'll be playing this again in my own time! And I think feeling that way indicates that you did really good! Awesome work Kleeder :DDD

thank you so much for the feedback! watching your video was a great insight. and shows me how much I lacked a second Playtester hahaha.
I think I'll make an updated version of this (outside of the compo) that fixes a few things.

I agree the secret exit in A CHOICE is too tricky and I shld make some jumps less hard.
I also think I shldve placed an extra life at the beginning of the ice cave time attack. and maybe make it save after finishing the level.
that's the stuff that happens under time crunch and I apologize. respect to you for not using save states not even to avoid the 1up farming.

but mostly, seeing how well you're able to clear the levels makes me think that the overall difficulty is alright. of course, dying sometimes is part of a Mario game. ;)

thanks again for playing and providing the video and feedback! now I'm looking forward to playing your hack as well, heheh

No worries at all! :)))) like I said was a fun experience, and ya, don't take every death as a negative. For example, struggled with Atgahd fortress a little, but that was just me fumbling by in large. Rogue elements like Magikoopas or offscreen Bullet Bill generation can be tough to manage with precision platforming, but even at the time of playing the mistakes I made in that level felt like my own.
Be awesome to see those revisions, and I really hope you feel inspired to make more larger scale lunar magic entries like this in the future!!

Hey everyone.
Don't use this for voting, but here's a slightly improved version (v2) of the hack, where I fixed the biggest annoyances.

eyyyy the nintendo logo replacement

since this is a big overworld, i decided to take a pretty close look at it. overall, the geography is very pleasantly varied, with the lake in the middle and many different "biomes" represented. there are some problem tiles with a few pixels that are out of place or backgrounds of different colors than the grass/sand/dirt around them.

Nirmgard

ha! i was not expecting a "fort" tile to lead to this kind of level (until i hit the midway). short and sweet, with a pretty obvious secret exit (necessary given the "fort" tile instead of a red tile). the key location was devious :) taught me immediately to stay on my toes. i can expect some players not knowing how to climb while holding an item, but that's fine. the second half music is fun ^o^ and i was happy to get a fire flower to do the ol' one-cycle iggy. in the first half i saw one out-of-place tile with a dirt corner pixel where there should have been air.

Moroglia Plains 1

cute! a couple misplaced corners on tiles, but i'm not scoring on that unless it's like.. pervasive. the palette in the sublevel was a little weird, but the secret exit was overall cute. i *did* take the flying block in the sublevel all the way across expecting the keyhole to be in the sky ^^; but afterwards it was easy to find the actual keyhole and it managed barely not to be a blind jump.

Morgolia Plains 2

it was a dino rhino level! there are enough levels that i can't put too much energy into reviewing each one ^^; dino rhinos are hard to design around but the slopes and ledges really helped make it dynamic.

Morgolia Forest

eyyy custom music again! the echo usage was nice in the tune, and the energy felt good, though the harmonies didn't necessarily feel like they flowed naturally. one of the rotating platforms did have a tendency to run into sprite slot limits and lose half the platform. the platform cycles were overall kind. i *did* get railroaded by the P switch, trying to bring it to the beginning of the level to get to the pipe covered by "used" blocks, but eventually figured that may have been something that didn't make it into the final version of the hack.

Morgolia Plains 3

bullet william! i've played enough kaizos that i kept thinking "i should babysit a bullet bill until i need to bounce off it to make a long jump" lol. shorter level than i expected and i couldn't find the fifth yossi coin.

props to making a subworld! the palette was def pretty broken in a way that felt kinda scuffed :( but that's ok

Utaio Ghost House

LMAO i misunderstood the beginning and was like "obviously since there's a ceiling hole and a sprite i can spin on and a powerup, i'm supposed to bounce up through the hole, taking the damage boost". i have been damaged by sadistic hacks. the p-switch gates worked pretty well. the secret exit was pretty tricky ^^ good job on this level!

Swamps of Utaio

fishin' boo AND custom music?! it feels like christmas. it was easy to bounce on the fishin boo for the first section of the level. this was nice! i didn't get to listen closely to the music since i forgot the level would destroy itself, preventing re-entry :( i enjoyed the disco bass tho! i did manage a corner wall jump onto the switch, but no yump off the switch. ten thousand years of shame on me.

Utaio Fortress

ahhh, the cultured "water fort" palette and gfx! it makes me think of YUMP's Nuclear Storage Facility, one of the meanest levels i've had the pleasure of playing. i liked the music, and the obstacles were well placed. i almost skill issue'd myself into being unable to open the boss door lmao. also weird lil OW event hehe!

Desert Oasis

shantae-ass music hell yeah. there was one particular potential softlock that one would have to pretty seriously skill issue into by destroying needed turnblocks. cute lil jumpman level! also after beating the level i killed a tree :<

Desert Palace

*mean* yossi coins haha! this was a fun one with the vine jumps. i still managed to miss the yump off the switch, but i did land the wall jump on the corner tile again.

Adventure Start

...oops. i got here late. good old fashioned platforming level, longer than some of the others in a way that i appreciate. the last yossi coin was cute!

A Choice

nice and tricky secret exit! i didn't see it at first. not entirely sure why this level is named what it is? but it was some nice platforming :) grabbing the key was a certified Kaizo Moment, as was getting to the keyhole ^w^ by far the hardest thing so far in the hack :)

Lotzia Forest

first of all, nice subworld!! i appreciate the attention to detail in this level, with the grass tiles. cute level!

Lotzia Lake

ooh, more custom music. this is a nice moody tune, def still dance music in a way that's appreciated. i did feel like some of the obstacles didn't actually get in the way, notably the urchins. overall, nice lil water level! no yump again...

Morgolia Graveyard

def a lot of waiting for cycles here, which made it a little frustrating that the secret exit was at the very end of the level. (okay, it's just waiting for cycles if you're a coward lmao.) i appreciated the palette here, stylish level!

Ominous Cave

IT'S YA BOY REX. good usage of a variety of FG tiles. overall a quick and easy jaunt!

Giant Lake 1

..okay so my first time through i *did* swim over the level because there was nothing stopping me from doing it and a girl's gotta have hobbies. the second half had a good deal of lag from sprites. def the messiest level so far, feeling a little like mario maker sprite spam for a while. secret exit was tough to find, i did run out of time since i skill issue'd into thinking i'd tested a pipe i hadn't. i also managed to mess around and get around 50 lives from a torpedo ted since you can keep hitting them with a star after they're "dead"

Island of No Return

bobert bombert is here. this was a fun lil stroll, and i finally got a yump here. one out of four is okay i guess.

Giant Lake 2

remember, kids: go under urchins, never over. and boy were those urchins out for blood! a lotta obstacles to contend with in this level.

Valley Without Name

whoops, the water tiles don't go *quite* low enough so you can fall through into the air and die! overall straightfoward mario level. the AFHBs were pretty mean but they always are!

Atgahd Fortress

kaizo block :) this level was claustrophobic, hah. also the midway entrance is mean as hell and i love it. good level! i died several times :D

Endless Desert 1

classic jumpman style, enjoyable to play! there's not that much going on here, but a level can sometimes just be a pleasant walk.

Endless Desert 2

my friend lakitu-poking-out-of-pipe is here! i got four lives on the bonus game, giving me 56 lives. it was then that i decided to find the THIRD EXIT in Moroglia Plains 1!

Mountain Cave
no bowser's castle 6 to clip into and softlock myself :(

Endless Ice Lands

ice platforming! makes me think of the custom bumpty sprite a lotta folks use. this was tricky and fun! i love gimmick levels like this, they give me life. also LOL the normal exit. the regrabs were tight, the platforming was unforgiving, 100% a kaizo level, probs intermediate difficulty kaizo ^o^ took somewhere over 60 tries! probs my favorite experience.

The End

holy lag. the room was good, just ran so slow haha. i missed ball skip on bowser. any% speedrun record ruined.

i know i must still have something left to find, but i'll be coming back later to search! (and maybe to look through the rom in lunar magic to find missing exits for maximum thoroughness.) this was a really cute lil hack, and a lot of levels to make in a short time! also i love the vanilla credits because you get to see hidequi konno and dayv brooks. thanks for making this!

thank you for the feedback! especially the overworld one, because I never did any OW editing before this.
the pswitch + blocks in morgolia forest are super super hard on purpose. theres an optional secret in there. I never managed to get it without using savestates and that's basically what I wanted.

it's interesting how, with so many different levels, everyone has a different favorite and enjoys different ones. the issues you pointed out are definitely there and some have been fixed in the 2.0 already or I'll keep them in mind for another fixed version.
having no other playtesters before submitting is rly not good x)

especially the slowdowns are something I shld try to fix - or keep a closer look on for future hacks.

I also enjoyed your yump-updates !

now i'm thinking there's a chance it's a midair p-switch jump in the forest lol, though it's more likely some kinda required left shell jump
