This is a vast expansion of this YEA VIDEOGAME entry that I made a few months ago, now fully ported to AMK! I figured that, in spite of the fact that the first 15 seconds sound nearly identical to the original, the fact that this has at least twice the content and thrice the length means it probably meets the reasonable constraints of reuse for the sake of revamping something old into something wholly new.
But, for the actual song! I wanted to take the two ideas I had jumbled together in the OHB and expand them into a full idea, which led to doubling both parts to build further and insert a bridge between them that brought it down from the high energy of the first part to the calm mystery of the second part. I then capped it off with the second part building up into a recapitulation of the first theme, now in a more standard time (4/4), and with more somber reflection in the echo of the horns, to cap off the full depth of this kingdom and tie it back to it's militant beginning.
As for the name, I actually took it from a kingdom I had made for a Dungeons and Dragons campaign that never came to fruition. At the time I had just called it Ergrant, named after it's first hero-king Grant, but seeing the old title I had for this song, I figured I'd mash that with the "Grand" to make "Ergrandt". It kind of looks more like a typical high fantasy name that way, yeah? But, funnily enough, the song more mimics the atmosphere of a different kingdom I had construed for that game: a once great nation (grand, even) that had fallen from it's former vastness and turned into a walled and isolated kingdom, cradled by the cold northern mountains and ruled by a king who's good will had long since frozen over with his heart. Will the heroes be able to brave this kingdom's long emotional winter and bring the flame of life back to it's ailing people?
Enough of the descriptioncore, though! I had fun breathing new life into this song and I hope you have fun listening to it in it's renewed fullness!
