The idea came from playing around with the bitpack snare at low range, which to me unexpectedly sounded like breathing inside a helmet when played at an offset, so I ran with it. It's simple, but I had a blast with this! Listen with interpolation.

The sound effects add to the immersiveness. And the pads also give that "wow, look how infinitely large the universe is compared to tiny me" feel. So, I think you pretty much achieved what you were going for!
